I am gonna buy one of these cars shortly, I was looking at a 1991 Auto Twin Turbo with about 60k on the clock. I really need your honest opinions guys, are they reliable? I don't want to fork out a load of money on something thats gonna give me problems.

Its either a 300zx or a supra TT. I would prefer a Z car though!!

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Dave,

Yes these cars are very reliable especially up to stage 3.

BUT remmember you are dealing with a Super car here for

With about 60K on the clock providing you have changed all the 60K service items (note : not just the cam belt as if one of the other items on the list fails you generally will have to pay as much in labour to have it replaced) then the car should be trouble free up to 80K in which case the odd things start to fail, Track Rods, Frame Bushes, Tranny problems, Driveshaft bearings and Turbos can all be upsetting Problems. But it all depends on your luckj really. A guy in the States recons he has 190M on Stock Turbos, he he.

So all in all i would say yes it is a reliable car, More so than the Supra even from what i have heard, It aint gonna be as cheap to run as a 406 or something but you $$$ you spend will be worth it. Oh and Make sure you get a good car when you buy one, not one that has been totally thrashed or modded to hell in Japan. Then you will minimize your troubles. ONce you have it learn to take care of it and im sure you will be fine!

These cars are bomb proof!!

60k miles though is when the major service is due which is spark plugs, filters, cambelt etc and generally you would expect the turbo's to be on their way out although a fully maintained, carefully driven vehicle could double that.

Only purchase this vehicle if this works has been carried out.

See a post further down the page about early auto's Z's as this will give you some further information.

The thing with the auto box worries me, was it sorted out after 1990? So if I get a 1991 example it won't have the same problems?

Mines a 1990 and it is fine. The only trouble I have had is a Power transistor failure £350 and a Auto speed sensor which is small potatoes.

It is ten years old and still kicks botty. People think i'm a rich man and I drive a car worth about 9K.

My brother spent 43k on a porsche and couldn't believe the acceleration from a rolling 100mph!

Simon (Close to to fix on the feckin speed sensor problem!)
