Just a bit of a rant and cry for help! I’m very stressed out at the minute with the crappy weather and the fact that my car always seems to be dirty at the moment!!

Just wondered if anyone can advise on these points.

1. Rubber Mudflaps – Can I remove these and soak them in anything?

2. Wheels – Whats the best stuff to get stock alloys back to factory like condition? There is no scuffing on them but they are caked in brake fluid and the crap that comes off the road, jet washes just don’t remove it.

3. Stainless Exhaust - How can I get this shining again?

Seriously debating on putting her into storage next year as I seem to be washing every couple of days at the mo!

Pah....

I cleaned mine and Dave's zed on Sunday and it was howling a gale, mad I know but I have a heater now so had to clean my really dirty zed

I've used wonder wheels and autosol on my zed it was all nice and shiny

The autosol does work but be prepared to sit down and spend quite a lot of time cleaning your exhausts.... I'd wait till it was a bit warmer for that job

After I cleaned my zed it rained

Not sure about the mudflaps, but for the exhaust, use autosol as

already said.

As for the stock wheels, get some brick acid from your local builders merchant, either apply it with a brush or a spray bottle, agitate it

for a MINUTE or so, then jet it off......SPARKLING WHEELS!!

Only do one wheel at a time as this is savage stuff and will kill your

wheel if you leave it on too long. You may want to wear a mask or

something while using it, it affects your lungs if you breathe it in.

PS: If anyone else is thinking of using this, i'd only recommend it on

stock finish wheels (ie: cast), not on chromes or coloured wheels.

I use parafin on wheels for general cleaning when theyre not too caked. Just as good as wonder wheels, no where near expensive.

Armour-all rubber cleaner seems to work well with mud flaps.

I prefer Meguairs NXT Gen metal polish over autosol, requires less rubbing in and gives a longer lasting shine.

 its usually the case all the hard work goes down the drain

Mudflaps - tyre shine

Wheels - Auto Glym engine and machine cleaner (all natural and won't 'pit' your wheels like acidic cleaners). Spray all 4 wheels thoroughly, then go round and agitate it with a brush, then go round again rinsing. Repeat if necessary. Then apply a good coat of wax to make them easier to clean in the future.

Exhaust - Autosol, elbow grease and patience!

NB - If you do use WW or any acid on your alloys, rinse the wheels REALLY well, then rinse them again before doing a final rinse. Do you see what I'm getting at? :D I've seen the result of WW being left on the inside of a wheel rim - not good.

Depending on how bad the exhaust I found that it might benefit from starting with some moist 800 grit wet and dry sandpaper, moving to 1200 then onto the Autosol.

I used to be a car valeter, we used a certain acid, literally spray on the wheels, work them with a toothbrush and jet wash asap (no more than 2 mins) Wonder wheels works the same, but if left on to dry up, u will knacker the alloys.

For the mudflaps clean with warm water and teh green side of a scouring sponge, then rinse off, then apply a coating of armourall (get from halfords) keeps them nice and new looking for ages.

Again Autosol and elbow grease on the pipes.
