Has any peeps here know anybody sucsessfull in claiming compensation from their local council for damaged suspension to their cars?

In the space of 6 months - or less, both my rear shocks are gone, my front NS link arm is creaking like mad and just today my front OS wheel has developed a noise equal to the revolution of the wheel, noticed straight after rolling off a monster one near my home - it now feel like i have square wheels!

I am totally seething with red mist now and I am 100% going to persue this even if it costs me more money to do so, any advice from anyone having been down this (bumpy) road please let me know...

Thanks in advance all

Best of luck m8 but I doubt you'll have any success because that's the whole point of the speed bumps really,

if you go too fast it will damage your car, the slower you go the less damage it will cause and that's the excuse they will use against you.

I know there is a limit as to how high speed bumps can be, not sure of the exact dimensions, would imagine its not too difficult to find out. If the affending speed bump is outside these dimensions I would say you would have a good case (IMO)

be hard to prove that your 20year old nissan is wearing on parts due to there speed bumps, but best of luck!!

I'd think about this very carefully. It will cost you a lot of money to get a solicitor to take on the case, thousands i guess. You will have to pay their costs if your case fails. You will also be liable for the other parties costs, if it fails. Keep in mind that whatever legal advise you get your local counsil will get better. I believe this has been successfully pursued in the past but the onus will be on you to prove it. Unless you have a lot of cash to burn, I wouldnt take it on.

Fair enough they are a pain, but i doubt they will award you anything (I say award, really your just claiming money from the government which no one benefits from really...)

There are loads in lancaster, only once of which i have a problem with , you just have to drive slowly... and thats all they will say, that if the shockers in the car couldnt take a gentle rise at a few mph then the car was unfit for road use. Since at higher speeds the shock of bridge expansion gap on the motorway could have blown your shock absorbers.

Now where you can get them is pot holes, and large peices of broken surface which have no signage, at the end of the day you know where speed bumps are they are sign posted and clearly marked... Big holes in the road are not and you stand a chance on those... But again, it would be a case of prove it, unless you could provide proof it will just get thrown out... You could have damaged your own car on kurb.

I thank everyone who has replied here and would add that I know about the dynamics placed on the suspension components to the point of being able to give a science lecture and that its been proven without doubt there is no real benifit to anybody or the planet in using speed bumps on the highways, I have a clean driving licence and my car was upgraded by Zedcenter in Tamworth a year ago and he said my car was one of the best hed worked on in a long time!

I also understand that with the car being made in 93 that it is seen as an old car but what if it had spent most of its life luxuriating in money and warmth as it has been and still continues to this day in my garage, its an original UK car that i spent 12 months looking for, its never been ragged (by me) and is still in concourse condition, right down to the very last detail!

I am now looking at paying out about £1000 for damage that I have no choice in paying and my gripe is that if I had a choice of decent roads to drive on I reckon this day would never have come about in the first place, I treat my car like my house, I am allways cleaning it, checking for paint damage, I make sure that I park it in safe places and I even (sad to say) know every pothole and speed bump on all my routes into and out of the places I regulary drive to.

my only option now is to buy a banger with my paltry wage and take the 300 off the road for now till I can afford to repair her damaged parts, well gutted and pi$$ed off!

I know the government will allways win but ive had enough of this country targeting the motorist and I just feel the need to do something now..

Sorry about the rant - am having a bad night! thanks for listening..
