Hi is any body using a 40 rear and a 45 front profile tyres on a 18" rim .I know people normaly fit 35 and 40 but i want to give the car a bit more ground clearance without adjusting the coilovers .I was thinking a 235x45x18 front on a 9"rim and a 255x40x18 on the rear on a 9 " rim .thanks taff.

hi taff

i'm using 235/40/18 and 265/35/18 rears, all avon zzr series, and when compared to the original 16" wheels with tyres only 2000 miles old that i took off, the 18's actually stood approx 15-20mm taller when side by side, so i probably picked up about another 10mm of ground clearance anyway.

just be careful you don't get too far away from the original rolling radius or you could get strange speedo readings compared to actual speed, and odd gear changes if an auto.

there are quite a few tyre size calculaters online, i'd certainly suggest running the numbers through one of these first.

cheers

I had 265/40/18 on the rear previously along with 235/40/18 on the front.

as you can see it looks a bit like a dragster!

This setup seemed OK and when the back end slid out it felt a lot more progressive.

However, I would not suggest you went to a 45 profile on the front as this may affect turn in and feedback...

Thats an unusual way of raising ride height, Depending on how low you have the coilovers set with the higher profile tyres you may find you have to raise the coilovers to prevent rubbing anyway.
