As title,

Have been looking at weight saving - saw this at the end of the sticky theard, anyone know anything about this doors, what the term means etc? trying to look for a way of getting rid of the electric windows for a wind mech for the weight saving.

Cheers, Ste

I really wanted some of these myself. But you must have a Full roll cage for safety and structual rigidy and I really dont want to have to go down the full cage route.

Also concerned about fitment quality and the overall rigidity of the doors as they say they wont even take the weight of the stock glass and you must use lexan windows.

Great for a Stripped out Race setup only, but not really suitable for any road use.

Have you seen them on AMZ - http://www.amzperformance.com/product_info.php?cPath=11&products_id=2205

AMZ refuse to sell to anyone that does'nt have a 10-point cage fitted on a track only car. Ofcourse you can tell them what they want to hear though, but it concerns me enough not to fit them.

I'd love to have some made in Aluminium or similar with support bars, or perhaps another option is getting some side impact bars fitted to the Escort doors. It would add some weight but they would still be considerably lighter than standard.

Standard doors are something like 70-80kg each

Ouch thats pricey lol, ever considered doing your own fireglass/poly mould of the original doors? thinking of keeping the originals and swapping them in and out!

I would have thought the standard doors were 70-80kg the pair. I have 2 spare doors in the back of my breaker and have to lift them out every time i need to get in to remove bits, there not that heavy, my wife even picked them up from petrolhead lol.

Hmm, yeah probably 80 odd lbs each maybe, still alot of weight that could be reduced.

Yeah, 2.2lbs to a Kg would be about right.

What is "speed glass", is that not easy to break glass or do the windows still go up and down? I'm only asking as would this pass an MOT?

Lexan/Plastic. Would require a fixed setup with no opening mechanism (with a little hatch so you can stick your arm out to pay at the McDonals drive-thru LOL)

Not sure about MoT. You would'nt want that sort of setup on a car used on the road...well I would'nt.

How much weight would you save by removing the window motors and glass and fitting the safe glass? Also save a bit of weight with the uk seat belts. (from the doors anyway lol)

Well it's less of a saving and more of a balance you can transfer to putting something in like a rollcage for me.

i'd say around 15kg a door as the glass is fairly heavy.
