ed, its very easy. i purchased 2 plates just before christmas for a freind i works with. you purchase the plate, normally takes 3-5 days for the paperworks to come through. take your logbook, MOT, insurance, photocopy of your taxdisc, plus your paperwork to your local DVLA, and they do the rest in about 30min max. all you have to do then is inform your insurance and replace the plates. thats it. :hyper:

I take it the car doesnt have to be taxed? Mine runs out end of this month and i might sorn it till feb? I know you take the disk so they can do you a new one.

did you just buy them from a website, seen the one I want up for 550 and 345 so far?

IIRC the vehicle does have to be taxed on the original plate for them to transfer it, but dont quote me on that. its not a problem anyway as you dont loose out in any way. yes, i purchased them as a pair online.

If the reg number is not on a retention certificate then the donor vehicle needs to be MOTd as does the receiving vehicle. not sure about road fund licence. But all the info is on the DVLA website.

Yeah I'll have a look. The irish ones I think have to go straight on the car.

Just means ill have to tax it, oh well!

I thionk the car has to be taxed & MOT'ed

The donor vehicle has to be taxed and MOT'd at the time of the transfer (or request to place the plate on a retention certificate).

If the receiving vehicle is not taxed, you must tax it at the same time as allocating the number plate to it. So it will also need an MOT in order to be taxed.

Straight from dvla site, worked out cheaper than a middle man website
