My mates just had to jump start his zed, as its een stood for a few months, took it for a drive and all seems well, except the indicators wouldnt work yet the hazzards would

now when the cars turned off and the key taken out some of the electrics are staying on such as the air con pod, and seems to have flatened the battery again,

its 89, j-spec auto twin turbo.

can anyone help

cheers

sounds like a diode has gone in the alternator, or the ignition switch is faulty. they are the 2 most common.

cheers mate, is there anyway to pinpoint the problem? and is the n/a alternator the same as a twin turbo?

The air con pod supply is fed from position one of the key so either the ignition switch is faulty or the relay that energises that part of the fusebox ( by the accelerator pedal ) is stuck in. (heard that water ingress in the back of the fuse box can cause this)

Try and disconnect the the ignition barrel plug ( key out of barrel ) and see what happens to the air con display, if it goes off the switch is faulty however if it stays on the relay/ fusebox must faulty.

ive not personally looked at the alternator on a zed, but on other nissans theres a plug with 2 or 3 wires that plugs into the alternator, just unplug it and see if the lights are still on. if not, then the alternator is faulty. if the lights are still on then the ignition switch needs checking. i can pop over and find out what the problem is if needed. just let me know si.

chech the hazzard switch they sometimes get a faulty connection, mine done it last year, i simply removed the screws, wiggled it about, replaced the screws and hey presto the indicators worked again

Hope its not the dreaded time control unit. Does the wiper intermittent wipe work? Do the dash lights work?
