could any one tell me the best way to un-cease the rear brake calipers, also the car failed on all emision tests, the car has been stood for some time?

Unlucky bud, the break calipers will need servicing if you don't want to replace them??

You can buy a servicing kit for the breaks with pistons and seels etc, personly don't know where. Or if your budgets tight you could strip and clean them ??

What reg is the car ?? Have you taken the Cats off ?

no, i havnt mate but ive just been told about cataclean and that if it has been stood for so long this stuff should sought it out. going to try that.

What year is the car?????

If its pre jul 92 then it doesnt need a CAT test, so doesnt matter if cats are there or faulty.

If it failed a non CAT test then something like failed O2 sensors may cause it

its a k reg 1993, going to get a price on two fitted rear calipers. I have sold the car to someone in coventry there picking it up on the 26th so it needs to be done and dusted, and i want it right so i have no comebacks.

Was it tested at a garage you are familiar with/ regular customer or Kwik-fit type place? The engine /exhaust system / cats need to be at normal operating temperature and this can take a little time.

The MOT tester will know this and a good one will spend time ensuring that it is really up to temperature before testing the emissions. One who doesn't give a toss might just hurry through the test and if the cats are not hot enough, chances are it will fail
