the drivers side of the exhaust pops like a quiet backfire when cold, also seems to miss and pop if i hold the revs at any certain point

if i reset tps or aiv or ecu it doesnt do it for a few hundred miles then starts to do it again

also tries to stall on pulling away, not so bad when it gets warm, again if i reset those things i mentioned it doesnt do it

any ideas peeps

Weird one, I'll have a think

Weird one, I'll have a think

One mention of your name and pop, a magic genie :D

could it be running rich.... mine had a popping incident once or twice and on the rolling road was told its running a bit rich

but dont take my word for it... :D you know what Im like :p

yeah its running rich but why????

if i give it some stick it seems to miss like hell (maybe flooding) when i change gear and hesitates til it maybe burns off the petrol if ya know what i mean

02 sensors are fine

i do get a bit of black smoke whilst on boost, today it ran ok, yesterday it ran likea bag of shite

this has been going on since i got the car, ive tried all the usual things

why does it run as it should when i reset ecu, tps, aiv????

also it has no low down torque when running crap, but loads when running right, am gonna check my plugs and connectors again on sat

im pissed off with it at the moment

have got an ecu, ive changed it before, it does the same runs great for a while then goes to shitty running again

i seem to be having the same prob when i try to pull away it goes to stall a bit and if it ticks over after 15 secs ish it will miss fire on tick over but when you drive it hard its fine but still comes back when you drive at a steady speed and low ish revs and on tick over like as if this droping 1 or 2 cyclinders

same here ive orderednew plat plugs from nissan should be here tomorrow as my mate works in parts will let you know wot happens also when i looked at the mot ticket when it had the co test it shows one bank was runin richer one bank said 0.54% and the other bank was 1.86 wot does you last co reading say if you can find it?

ive no idea, mine is a 92 so dont think i got it done, i will have a look for it just incase though

mines a 93 kreg i think it was surposed to had a cat test but it looks like a normal co2 reading test

Have you checked your air filter/maf, it might not be breathing properly.

yer i checked mine on saturday and cleaned it just in case still got a problem

Might be worth removing the plugs and checking their condition also just to eliminate this, is it firing on all 6?

Been thinking about this for a few hours now. This is pretty much my thought process, some of which may be stating the obvious, but i problem solve better when its laid out infront of me.

Running rich is a definate. fits the bill to a T

Theres nothing to suggest poor compression etc.

Spark... Is it getting one. If so is it a strong spark or a pathetic one. If its weak, its either knackered plug, coil or leads (which seem to get overlooked alot in diagnosing spark faults on zeds, even tho there 15 years old)

Fuel... Fuel filter probs would tend to cause lean running not rich... maybe not this then.

But then you mention doing resets on ecu etc....... Why would this fix it? mmmm

Injectors...... Im think im right in thinking that not only can they block so no fuel gets through, to the opposite that they get jammed open dumping fuel into the cylinder. Possible theory - Is that right andy, im not 100%.

Ill sleep on it and see what i can come up with

Nick

Injectors can indeed jam open.

Thought about this for a bit and like above, clean the plugs but also reset all the gaps to 1.1mm - I bet you they've closed up. You'll need feeler gauges for this, not a tape measure lol. Next check the ignition timing is correct - initial check is to see if the CAS is almost central although this isn't a 100% guarantee, use a timing light to verify. Had sort of the same problems with Saz's car and this sorted it (timing was @ 21 deg when it was supposed to be 15 lol)......

Cheers,

Andy

I was thinking along the same lines, but not that the injector is jammed open but that no spark resulting in the expelled fuel combusting in the exhaust causing the pop. You could always place a long flat bladed screwdriver/or stephoscope (if you have one) on each injector and listen at the end of the driver for the clicking.

I was thinking about the CAS andy, but the only experience ive ever had with a CAS causing running problems was the connector was all greened up, and pretty much used to keep cutting out on me, which is more extreme than this scenario.

Stella, i take it youve checked the condition of the connectors on the CAS, TPS and the PCV?

Nah the CAS is only a position sensor for the ECU. It would cause more problems than just a miss if it was faulty

Chech the injector and the coil connectors.

I had a similar problem with mine, and the problem was bad injector connectors. Change them if you havent done it.

If not I will guess on an injector not working properly... Or a broken coil.

Im most certain that the problem is one of the mentioned :hyper:

connectors have been changed will check the gaps on the plugs on sat, wil also check the timing, ive thought about a coil pack breaking down (anyone got a good one to lend me)

would a decent injectorcleaner help????

if i have the auto econ button pressed instead of the window demister button the problem gets worse, would this be simply down to the decrease in revs making it easier to stall???

the smell from the engine and exhausts stinks of rich running, to the point that its actually coming through into the car lol

maybe it gets better when resettign as the ecu over rides things to learn its curve again

the cas isnt central, ive not changed it

will let ya know how i get on at the weekend
