A friend of mine just got his car clamped by the DVLA for being out of tax for 14 days!!, he's tempted to just cut it off  , does this sound like a bad idea or a very bad idea?

Featured Replies

No it doesn't sound like a very bad idea - it sounds like a very very very very VERY bad idea!!!!!! He will be in deepest shitshire if he does that! He should have taxed the car, end of....

NO, No, No

This is not like the robbing *******s that hide behind hedges clamping people

the thugs can bully. If you take one of these off No one is interested.

But DVLA Have a lot more Power

If he takes it off without damaging it then its fine.
But will not the fine still be payable?

knowing your luck there is CCTV all around...... After all this is UK :D They are watching your every move

wear a balaclava.

NOTE TO ALL:

Stay away from the forums criminal

It is perfectly legal to remove a wheel clamp as long as you don't damage it. There are guides on the net, which usually involve deflating the tyre to get some room then removing the wheel.

Yes there is Because All the Scumbag Clampers are not regulated and Plod

will not Defend them, Also Scumbag Clampers cannot get your Address using

your Vehicle Number

DVLA CAN, and they will and they will prosecute.

But they never turn up in court and gets thrown out every time. I'm on 5 now ;-)

you can take it off as long as there is no damage to it, BUT if you pay for it to be removed and there is damage to your wheel then you can also claim off them resulting in, a brand new set of wheels cos they dont make yours anymore and refurbers cant match the colour :D

Well I let him know but he wants to pay the fine as he's not got the bottle to go through with removing it!!

pay the fine - sure - he cant dispute the fact he was illegally parked - but remove the clamp so you dont have to pay any clamping/release fees

What he said........

.........if it were private "cowboy" clampers then I'd do it (without damaging it of course) but not to the DVLA. He should just pay the tax and the fine. End of story. :nono:

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

....take it off and post it off to Swansea with a wee note attached.....

"I found this lying around the street next to a car and seeing as it had your name on it I thought I'd send it back to you. I know you probably didn't mean it, but you really shouldn't just leave things lying around in the street anything could happen to it and some people might just see it as litter and fine you for it.....you know the way things are going these days .....they'd fine you for anything if they could.

Your Faithfully,

A helpful friend."
