It sounds like your lower bushes have failed.they are top hat bushes made of plastic and can go brittle and break up.mine did the same.Mike feeney sells them.

What he said

They make all the difference too!

Get a short shifter while you are there!

Thanks are they easy to get to change etc thanks.

Easy on a ramp but will be a bit tricky on the floor. The stick comes out through the top but undoing the pivot bolt underneath can be fiddly. If you have small hands it shouldnt be to bad.

Yup, quite easy to change the bushes in theory, but it's a bit of a tight squeeze.

The plastic bushes tent to get worn quite quickly, the hard rubber ones if you can get them are much better.

You'll need 2 of these.

I had a write up on my old site when I changed mine, gave step by step instructions and pictures. When I say step by step I mean from taking off the gear knob, removing the interor pannels you need to chaning the bushes from start to finish. I'll try and dig it out when I get home for you.

Yeah, you need fingers like ET (although the light on the end is optional !) ;)

Its easier than changing a headlight bulb though lol

fingers like ET or fingers like a jap and a good set of chopsticks ;)

If you can get the car on a rap it make life much easier. I would get a short shifter from someone like 2fast2cool on fleebay. These are real good quality and come with nylon bushes. I've fitted a Nismo to my Blue car and a 2fast 2cool to my first red SWB, but I had the use of a ramp both times. I wouldn't fancy laying under the car on axle stands though. I have biggish hands with fat sausage fingers and it didn't seem too bad a job.

You don;t need to lay on the floor to do it. I did mine from inside the car :).

Yeah it was tricky but got it done.

How did you get the bolt through the eye's and bottom of the shifter shaft?

Are you a key hole surgen by any chance?

I think you could maybe do it with one of Likes cut down jobs, but the Nismo and the 2 Fast 2cool shifters have a new rose joint fulcrum which i'm sure would impeed working just from above.

Fair Play to you though Stu

All the ones I have done have been from above, easy :D
