Questions, questions...

1. What exactly does the "hold" button do on the auto box? the boost gauge indicator still moves, but there is less power/tprque...

2. Is the petrol consumption lower when in "HOLD" mode? If yes then by how much approx?

3. Is there an aftermarket steering wheel that has the Cruise control buttons built in for a TT?

4. Are the turbos the same size and boost on the TT? i'm sure they are sequential, but is there a way to get them both running at the same time? would that even make any sense?

thank you

hold is for use in bad weather as it lets the car pull away in 2nd rather than first and it wont allow the box to kick down as readily so it doesnt spin out on wet or slippy roads/hold is your friend in the winter

HOLD does not affect power or fuel consumption. It simply keeps keeps the car in 2nd gear when pulling away for ice/snow conditions. You should not drive the car with hold continously on.

All aftermarket steering wheels require aftermarket hubs, and you can get hubs that have cruise control buttons on them. I believe Danny @ DTA may have imported these before.

Turbos are not sequential. They are 2 small turbos that run at the same time.

question: if hold does not affect power or fuel consumption then why is when i have hold on (in wet weather on my 205s... :D ), that even when the boost gauge moves to max boost there is much much less power delivery than in normal mode?

thanks for th replies boys

when pulling but also at all other times, e.g. if i'm doing 50mph and floor it with hold button on the boostgauge indicator moves but there is nowhere near as much power - it really feels as though the turbos are just not working. actually that's not exactly true - it feels like the kinda acceleration i get when the boost gauge indicator gets to "0" or the middle of the dial and not a drop more. could it be that my cars hold button initiates safe mode? i've never felt safe mode before, but i read a few posts about it on the forums...

NAVAN did one for the Z32, with or without the Cruise buttons on, so would fit straight onto the hub....

Without...

With Cruise...

Now the problem..... Even IF you could find one, you're probably looking at around the £700 mark! Which puts it out of most people's limits.

You simply shouldn't be using it at that sort of speed, it'll fook up the auto box. It's only for starting off in bad/slippery conditions.

HAH! £700! you can prob get an NA for that sort of money! That's even worse than the original imo, which I quite like actually - it just pales in comparison to the momo evo a lot of the manual cars seem to have on here... and mines quite worn with scratches... actually wondering! is possible to get someone to put some leather or carbon around the standard wheel? has that been done before by anyone?

ISTR that "Hold" will also keep the transmission in lock-up mode more of the time, instead of allowing it to come out of lock-up and use the torque convertor as a torque amplifier (like an auto box usually does when you floor it and the revs shoot up much faster than the speed does - like a constantly slipping clutch in a manual car)

Could be wrong, it's been a while since I owned a slushbox :)

I need my wheel recovering, but couldn't find anyone prepared to do it.

Yeah the MOMO one is very nice indeed, if you're not sticking to the OEM look, and would compliment the MOMO handbrake you're after :D

I really like and i'd get it, but 1.it's expensive :( and 2. what do i with the cruise buttons? i mean like the cruise control. i like the way it's layed out... if i got the wheel then how would it look - i mean where would the buttons be moved to? would they be comfortable to use? thanks for helpng me out so much with all these questions...

gotcha, thanks. i only did it once to try and understand how it works - i hardly ever drive above 40 anyway :smw:

that is exactly what it feels like now that you mention it! so guys anyone can confirm this?

I know someone who might do it - she's never (to my knowledge) done a Z wheel, but she does plenty of MR2 (Mk1, 2 and 3) wheels, gaiters and soforth.. I'll PM you her details if you want (and anyone else who'd like them!)?

I've no idea if I'm allowed to advertise someone elses services here publicly (read: I can't be arsed to go read the rules to find out.. :nelson: )

excellent! pm me - tbh i think you should put up an ad for her in the traders section or wherever the rules permit, because i'm sure there will be a lot of demand for that... every car i saw when i was looking for mine had scratches on the steering wheel!

As far as I am aware there is no problem in runiing box with Hold on, just shifts up at lower revs and makes kickdown less responsive, as well as pulling away in 2nd. Handbook says its OK to use for sedate in town driving. less revs, slower speed = more mpg?!

well maybe it's psychological, but i've been driving up 35-40 mph in the wet in hold mode (as i still only have 205s on the rear :wack: and in the wet i can feel it getting dodgy as the turbos come in to play :) ) and i think it's drinking less juice. could also be the fact that from a full tank the first quarter seems to go in about 15 miles! but then the needle goes down more slowly and on the last quarter i have do about 70 miles...

Can you read Japanese then? Because it's not in the Uk handbook, as it's a JSpec only device! Overdrive, yes, but not the Hold/Power button.

was going to say i dont remeber seeing it in my handbook ;)

It has two other functions as well... for when people insist on wanting a go in your car, pop her in hold and there its nice and safe - ergo the other "user" cant break it!!

The second is when the autobox is being a plank and refuses to change (like they do from time to time...) pop it in hold and back out again and then hey presto its in the gear it should be in!

now.. ahem... back to on topic for those moderators - so do you think there is a place i could get all of that done in one go if i brought all the parts, too?

P.S. for some reason i feel like having a milk flavoured milkshake... mmmm... mmmilky...

With hold the car will not rev past a certain rpm think its around the 4k mark.
