Just coming home from work and the power steering has stopped working and the HICAS light has come one. Looked in the pot and the fluid seems to have been thrown all over the front of the engine.

So my questions are these

1. Is the power steering pump at the top left of the engine as your looking at it?

2. Are there any pipes or anything around there that could have broken instead of the pump?

and 3. how harda job is it to change out once a find a new one??

Cheers all

Sorry to hear this bud. I had one of the rubber hoses off the Hicas solenoids burst. The hose itself wasnt too expensive, but i seem to recall it being a pig to change.

Sorry i cant help any more

Yeah, not good but thats the way it goes with these cars hey, it's going into the spray shop tonight too lol. Think it's trying to get me not to leave it there!!

I can't see any pipes tho, where was the Hicas solenoid?

sweet link, thanks for that rubble. The pump is definitely the location it's coming from. Suppose I just have to get the boost pipes and everything above there off now to see if it's actually the pump or the pipe that gors to it.

Anyone know how bigger job it is to get out and about how much the pumps are. Its the one at the front of the engine on the left as you look at it, top pulley.....

Thanks for all the replies!!

I take it the engine was out so you don't know how hard it is to get off though was it??

Its most likely one of the numerous PAS/Hicas pipes running from the reseviour to hicas solenoid, to pump and then rack.

Running the pump dry will damage it, . If you have to drive it, then best option would be to cut the PAS belt off.

Actually yes as Dave says it an damage the pump, i was going by a Lexus i drove a good few miles with a dry pump and it was fine, but then thats Toyota... a bit more hardy than Nissan :p
