Thats you lifters bud.

What oil are you using???

Try Hydraulic lifter treatment by wynns. That should sort it. If not you can clean the lifters out my hand, or change them for a new set. its not a big job

Where can i find and buy a new set from??? Duno what oil actually got oil change done at Zworld around 800miles ago ish!

P.s I had a feeling it was the lifters

That sounds worse than just the lifters!!!

My old zed sounded EXACTLY like that when cold. New set of lifters sorted it straight out

Wouldn't say it was such an 'easy' job either lol. TBH it sounds more like the problems Hellraiser has ben having and that was a slack belt  Although if the noise goes when warm then you can rule that out.....

I certainly wouldnt say it was hard. Its just a bit time consuming. I managed it when i was a novice. The only thing i couldnt do was the cambelt timing coz i didnt have a timing gun. saying that i wouldnt know how to use it even if i did have one! :slap:

Andy you terrified me when you said it wasnt just the Lifters!!!! Well i know the belt is a little slack when i got it serviced they showed me how to tighten it up using that little bolt on the front right of the engine! I was thinking of getting a full Cambelt change, water pump all of it as its on 103,000 now so i know its due a 100k change up! So lifters will be added to my list!I have 02 Sensors need to get them in too!

When the engine was warm it was still a little rattle which sounds llike the lifters (thanks to watching other Zed Vids) jus very quiet but continuous! So can anyone tell me where i can get a hold of some new Lifters?? Also a decent Cambelt Kit i really need to touch up on my know-how!

Been fiddling with bloody Headlight bulb for ages grrr... it is so fiddely and annoying!Fuse box is in the way of my fingers Bah!Passenger one is so annoying!

Many thanks to all the Replies too i did get scared when i started her up and Tick Tap :)

Thanks again

Plenum off, cambelt off, certainly not for the average novice! You don't need a timing gun to do the timing belt

I was always told to check the timing is correct when changing a cambelt. Cant remember who by, but i cant see it hurting.

Point taken tho, suppose being into cars, or pretty much anything with an engine, gives you a slight advantage over the "average novice".

Maybe im just blessed (dont be so arrogant pike! :slap: )

Andy is not saying dont check the timing, he is saying you dont need a timing gun because they are only for when the engine is running, if engine in strip down you would use the timing marks

And as for the noise, sounds a bit to horrible for lifters as well

this may seem silly but mine was making a funny noise and it was down to a loose spark plug, something you can check yourself.

Jeez - I'm with Duffers, that doesn't sound like lifter tick.. that's not a 'tick tick tick' noise, more of a 'blam blam blam' noise.

Actually sounds reminiscent of when I started the 1ZZ with only three plugs out of four in - only quieter.. So Jaffa's suggestion is well worth checking.

OKies i have got some new spark plugs!Where do they go??? what do i have to take off to get to them?

Just bought a new tool kit so should be able to put them to work :) Keep me busy for a few days im sure :)

pop the coil packs off and they are hiding in the holes ;)

Yep indeed - unclip the connector from each coil pack, undo the two bolts holding it in and remove it, then use a plug wrench to remove the plugs and refit new ones, being careful not to drop anything down the hole ;)

To get at the back right coil pack you'll need to unbolt the balance bar (two nuts on the drivers side, one nut and two bolts on the pass. side from memory) being careful not to lose the three O-rings that live under it, and push it backward a little to get at that coilpack.

From memory ;) if I missed anything, it has been four years.. :p
