Interesting program on BBC3. Funny how people are prepared to eat meat as long as they don't see it being killed. IMO if you're going to eat it then you should understand the full process including the slaughter.

My parents generation born in the early 1920's were the slimest and fittest there has ever been. They all eat loads of cream cakes, clotted cream tea's. Jam and bread, drank gallons of Tea with 2 or more sugers, have fry up breakfasts, fish'n'chips smothered in salt and vinigar, had bread and dripping, cooked everything in lard infact did everything they say we shouldn't do.

Because they did lots of hard manual graft, 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, to burn off the calories?

And I'm guessing they didn't eat those things all the time - unless you had very rich ancestors ;)

Oh - there was rationing in there somewhere too - not too many cream cakes & scones while that was going on...

....Also they walked everywhere and did more physical jobs.

That's the key statement Mark! Physical jobs have been replaced (on the whole) by robots/machinery etc. Even bin men now just wheel the bin to the lorry and it tips the rubbish in for them. Health and safety are partly to blame, do they realise they're actually creating BAD health by stopping people doing real work??? Most modern jobs are office based and very few people supplement the lack of exercise at work with extra out of work. Everyone drives to the shops etc. Diet hasn't changed, although intake of 'good' foods has dropped - "Can I have a big Mac and a large portion of veg please?" I don't think so. Smoking may be bad for you but pumping your body full of saturated fat is far far worse...

No they didn't do 12 hour shifts they actually worked 8 hour shifts 5 days a week. + Dairy products, Lard, Fish and potatos where only rationed between 1940 and 47 though some things were rationed till 55, but they flipping well made up for it and still do so why didn't they all get to be big fat Bast***s as soon as rationing finished.

While rationing was on fruit was in very short supply and considered a luxury, lard lard lard was the menu ;)

I just don't recall my grandparents eating cakes & scones all the time.. sure we had clotted cream when we visited my dads parents - but that was a once a year Christmas thing.

Maybe I just had poor grandparents

Ah well, what do I care - I'll just go back to killing myself with food now ;) the quicker the better..

Another point is that people's diets used to depend on the season, so over time everyone got a proper varied intake of food during the year. These days you can get anything you want at any time you want it, so people's diets are no longer varied and some are missing out on vital vitamins/nutrients etc, because they concentrate on the things they like, rather than the things their bodies need for a healthy life...

I don't think that it is necessary to have to see an animal being killed. The hunter gatherer thing has been illiminated now and food is all proccessed for us. I would imagine that if it were exposed more then more and more people would become vegeterians? That being the case Jeremy Clarkson wouldn't have enough time left over to do Top Gear. :D

I have heard so many people say they would have no problems killing an animal then eat it. Load of shite. When it came down to it most wouldn't have the balls to kill an animal then eat it. I cetainly wouldn't want to and I am very grateful that in this day and age I dont have to.

Thank god for TESCO's.

Mate killing things is the easiest thing to do and idiot can do it, skinning gutting is another story as sometimes its rather smelly. But when it all comes down to it.... Yum Yum in my Tum.
