Hello,

i recently took my wheel in to get what i thought was a puncture repaired, however it turns out that the alloy ha begun to split a bit around the inside rim edge. The crack is abuot 2-3cm long direction square across the entire rim.

Is this fixable, or is this a terminal sickness my wheel now has?

Anyone know some whell repair places around Cambridgeshire area?

thanks.

there is not many places that fix alloys (although tons of refurb places). The place i found to fix my alloys is in scotland. sounds daunting but is actually not that expensive to send a wheel if you use interparcel.com. these guys can fix anything and offered a discount to club members. Search my posts to try and find the details. Hope this helps.

no problem although the place vijay recommended looks good too and is alot nearer to you if you wanted to drop them off. I hadnt seen that place before in all my searches. I can speak for scottish place that their work is top notch. There were some delays when i sent mine off but that was due to them being busy which i suppose is a good sign!

try, alloy wheel refurbishment centre at cambridge road, cheshunt,(on the a10) herts. 01992- 624433. a lot of people in the trade use them.

Nope they are poo, i went there with my wheel they couldnt do it.

was it the one in scotland you used jimmytt? that doesnt look as bad as my alloy that missing a 3-4inch x 2inch chunk and was badly buckled but now is good as new. No horrorshow pictures unfortunately. The lads in scotland claim they can fix any wheel no matter the damage.

Seems there are many places who can refurb wheels, recoat etc. I discovered that you can purchase on the great ebay (and clearly other places) a powder coat machine and powder, alas the kitchen oven would have to be used for the baking process.

But from what I've been reading up, welding and fixing broken/split aluminum and alloy composites is quite a refined art.

yeah it is which is why not many places in the UK seem to do it. Any monkey can do a simple refurb on wheels. There is another place i found in Leictershire but they were very unhelpful when i phoned them up.

if you look at the scottish place website you can see all the stages of the repair and it shows they have all the big kit and expertise to do it. My wheels are lightweight Italian racing alloy which required alot of zinc in the weld to stick properly. Very professional job because it is impossible to see where the repair was made now.

My tip would be to remove all the centre caps, spigot rings, badges or whatever before you send it because they need to strip them completely to work and those sort of things can get lost in a garage full of other wheels.

My wheel should have arrived with them today, i will ring them shortly or an update on my wheel status.
