i got given a tensioner back but whos to say it was my old one!

if the tensioner was replaced it should be still pretty clean...especially the hydraulic part on the top

if it's dirty/oily and the pulley has a bit of play it was probably never replaced

A new tensioner may have been fitted, but if the bolts weren't tightened up properly, the piston would have travelled to its fullest extent and then the belt would have got looser and looser :(

The fact that your engine is still running however is probably the 'good news', once you've replaced the belt and got a new tensioner you should be back in business...

Cheers

Simon.

if you look at the second vid you canb just make out the tensioner is completely closed putting no pressure on the belt.

Hmm, it's hard to tell with the bottom cover still on. When you get that cover off you'll be able to see how much of the piston shaft is protruding.

(I hope whoever replaced the tensioner didn't leave the locking bolt in place! That's a small possibility at least)

Yep you have a geeky voice  ;)

You are one lucky barstuard that everything has held together. To be sure I'd replace the cambelt when you replace the tensioner - looks like the hydraulic plunger has failed. New parts can fail as well you know ;)

i don't think it was replaced. the bearing is pitted on it and im convinced its either the original one or a replaced second hand one. comparing the bearing to the new idlers its deffo older.

im waiting for somebodys number so i can find out where the one i paid for is!!

Get somebody else to speak to them tho  ;)

Pmsl!!!!!
