Having time to reflect on the future recently, how many people would actually be prepared to buy a genuine 99 spec ZX. I estimate prices to be approx £7 - £9K OTR...

They first came out in October 1998, so by August next year i'll be seriously looking to get some over. However will the demand be there enough for me o invest time/effort to monitor selling prices/availability over the next 6/7 months?

Thx Lee

If you could get a tidy 1999 TT 300ZX on the road in the UK for £7.5K I would be very interested.

If a low mile 1996 one goes for £10.5-£11K otr in the uk is that likely though?

Well that was ultra low miles, hence the very high price... otherwise normal price would be about £6K OTR for a nice clean 96 ZX TT...

I think the prices will have to ease somewhat and I hope they will by the time the 99 spec's become non ESVA imports..., and then the price also depends on whether I get strong competition from other UK importers... but my estimate is between £7 - £9K OTR for a 99 spec TT

:)

Could well be interested at that price.

I cant see any 99 spec looking or being any better than Funky Si's car.
No one would disagree with you there:)... it was a clean car when I imported it but obviously since then Simon's taken it to a whole new level:), think his car has had a very positive influence on the club too:)

Only problem there is, there's only one of Funky Si's car, and as far as I'm aware it's not available!

can some one explain to me why the 99spec is so sought after,i understand its newer but what is so much better about it than your average zed? Surely also knowing the current value of cars will the depreciation not be immense?

I don't think the depreciation ill be a huge factor on the 99 spec ZX's because in comparison to the early production there were very little made. The overall changes whilst not huge all add up to give a much smarter looking package right out of the factory, so much so that all you really need to do is adda nice set of wheels and then just leave it alone:)

Some of the main points of the 99 spec ZX being:

- Facelifted front and rear bodystyling

- Factory Xenon lighting

- Revised rear lighting

- Revised interior incl carbon fiber center console, sportier seats etc, etc

- Optional sideskirts also became available

Quick Question.

Why do you have to wait until the cars reach ten years old? Don't cars get imported all the time that are less than ten years old?

Is it because of money issues, or problems with UK standards etc...

i thought you could import them with a model report?

I believe its because there is no model report as saz said, but there is no model report because the car doesnt pass some standards. However if its 10 years old it doesnt need the model report and so gets around the problem.

somthing to do with SVA tests.

To hazard a guess it will be to do with safety standards since the later ones were OBDII complient so it cant be that!

Even more confused now, what's a model report???

I thought it might be something to do with immisions and safety etc... but my dad was convinced it was to do with the cost.

Id be very interested in a 1999 swb tt slicktop in manual
Seems to be the most wanted spec!!, just an idea but it may be cheaper to import a slicktop NA and then turbo it, will be far easier to source from Japan that's for sure... (as I said just an idea)

and less power IIRC.

Lol and with less to go wrong... they loss the VVTI for a start, anything else? would be good to know if the actual turbo's were the same, or did they use later tech on them?

280hp as they had to chance somthing for the emissions.

VVT NEVER goes wrong and even if it did it wouldn't cause any issues... Sorry Lee but I really don't see the attraction  Lower spec to reduce manufacturing costs etc. ONLY advantage would be newer so less chance of rust and wear. As far as less made so less depreciation, no way!!!!

Cheers,

Andy

Sorry if it was written wrong, but I don't see it as an attraction either, the loss of VVTI was done to save money, simple as.... depreciation on a 99 spec will not be a huge factor because of the rarity factor, I don't think you can say the only advantage is newer as that would mean that the better colours, better lighting, better styling, interior etc, etc count for nothing

Better interior? Since when? LOL Anyway I aint getting into any arguements at the moments because its the festive period, so I'm having a 99 spec can of stella and for NYE we have a 2k spec bottle of Moet & Chandon ;)

Absolutely let's not argue :p , afterall this is something that will be happen for some time, and only if I see enough serious interest!!

Hi,

Most of the 99 spec additions could be added to an earlier car, although the 99 cars did have a thicker floorpan and side impact bars in the doors to improve crash safety.

The windows were also given rain repellent glass ?!

Personally I would rather have an earlier car and add the cosmetic additions myself...if that's the look I wanted!

Cheerz,

Jez

interesting thread! as some of you may know I had a 99 spec lookalike zed which I wrote off... since I havent been able to decide on a suitable replacement! i would be interested in a genuine 99 spec car and I've been looking into ways of getting one, i was thinking of importing a twin turbo and doing a one off noise and emissions test but havent got the balls to take a chance in case it doesnt pass...

so lee your thinking of getting 99 spec zeds just when they are just 10 years old?
