Was thinking about getting one of these stereos, as it is a pain in the rear putting the front on and off on the short journeys I do. But talking to some people in a ICE shop they say the ribbons become fragile and break, anyone had any experience with these?

i had a kenwood mask a few years back and it never flickered, you could also take the front off

was a good stereo

they are a nightmare imho im on my 4th if it has the mask and removable panel it will either pack up so it wont rotate or the screen will go blank but it still works then when you tap the front again it comes back on they seem to always have problems with masks but ive had mine 2 years now and ive had the fault where the screen disapears and my security plipper wouldnt work either as the screen was u/s £150 to have it put right oh yea if you drop the fascia that will put it out of action too :)

Ok guys that have a reliable one, let me know the model number please?

Are there some monitor type head units that look like a face off stereo when shut?

there is NO motorised mask front stereos available that dont suffer with cracked ribbons at some stage. have repaired every model going throughout the years. i can supply and fit ribbons for any brand if needed. so if you see one you like, then get it ;)

How head units with motorised screens fair with the ribbons, thanks for the offer by the way?

H/U with motorised screens dont tend to suffer too badly with ribbons as there is more flexibility for the ribbons to move, hence dont get bent too much. the problem with normal H/U`s is lack of space, so the ribbons get bent at tighter angles, if you understand what i mean. your welcome of the offer ;)

Are there any alternatives for head unit security, for someone who is lazy :D

just one with a removeable front panel, thats about your lot. i bought a cheap one for my runabout from halfords (yes i know), a sony one which is £139.99 in shop, but ordered online ended up at £103.99 and pick up from your local store. not sure if offer is still on though. plays mp3, has built in bluetooth for your phone hands free, removeable front

and blue illumination. not a bad unit either.

I have got to admit, I like the idea of the monitor head unit that gives the appearance when shut, of the faceplate being removed but can find any that are still available :(
