Just watched this as, as a boy EK was a hero. After teh interview all I can think was the man was a prick and I have absolutly no respect for him. And do you know what done it for me, I know he was ill, I know he maybe didnt want to answer awkward questions, it was his treatment of other people.

What an arrogant ignorant twat.

nasty man, i was cringing for Hammond.

the shite that man put his family through was disgraceful also

Sorry, but I don't agree with your opinions at all. Don't think he treated Hammond all that badly, OK he seemed to give him the run around a bit and didn't want to answer the question regarding how his family felt following the Sky-Cycle crash, but that's his right if he so wishes. You've got to realise this guy was dying, and he knew it.

As stated by Steve above, he was a great showman, that made a few mistakes, but there's a damm sight worse people who are in the public eye as much these days as he was back then, that quite frankly don't deserve to be!

He was a proud American and wasn't ashamed of his background and wasn't afraid to support his countries flag (pity there arn't more people over here prepared to do that for our own Union flag  )

It's not always a good idea to meet your hero, as they might not live up to all the hype! ;)

It was a good program, and he's still a hero, and I'm watching the film in a few minutes :)

as has already been said, he was without a shadow of a doubt a great showman, but he has always been arrogant tw*t, which was clearly visible in the program. even my 14yr old daughter picked up on it.

And a lot of people that are in showbiz are exactly the same! Take pop stars, footballers etc arrogant to the last, but who complains? ;)

Nothing that was in that program was news to me, or any other real Kenevil fan, it's all old news that's been around for years.

Or is it more to the point that it was Richard Hammond that was doing the program, and a lot of people like him due to his 'Hero' status over here in the UK (not that I'm knocking him at all, i think he's a great bloke) and Evil is a Yank who did all his stuff 30 odd years ago?!

I did tell you (see earlier thread) evil by name evil by nature.Horrible man.

evrything you say there is spot on, it does not detract that he was a prick. My opinion has nothing to do with Hammond treatmet, fair enough its how he treated everyone else about him.

Incidently I read the article that he set about that publisher for and there is nothing in that article and book that he himself has not publicaly declared in front of a TV. What it dont say was that he got 2 of his heavies to hold him on the floor while he smashed him with a baseball bat.

The only 2 things in that documentary was Hammond realising what he put his family through and hammond review of us going to someone like that, idolising them for effectivly trying not to commit suicide.

yes i agree with the footballers, pop stars, actors, ect. just because they are famous they become arrogant towards people. its also got nothing to do with hammond at all, its the fact that evel is arrogant, and as you say, its nothing new. i was around when he come on the scene so i do remember. it also goes to prove that he was made by the public, and finished by them for what he did to that guy. its a shame that didnt happen to a few more of the famous.

Did he ever make a jump without crashing.

I think the point to be made was the lack of humility, he thought he was better than every body else and hated the fact he wasn't.

Sorry if it upsets peoples idea of him but he was an arse.

But all that said may he rest in peace finaly as he seemed to have a troubled life.

Couldn't agree more. Even though you could see he was dying and was terrifed, he was still a very troubled man.

Ar5ehole or not, at least now he finally has some peace.
