Well I have finally started to take my dash out.

I have given up outside for today, come in to build my gauge cluster.

Following issues so far:

Cant get the bloody hazard switch connector off

Fog light switch has been bodge soldered by prev so im gonna have to cut the wires.

Cant get the stpuid connector off the internal temp sensor

Cant feel a screw head in the rear of the steering wheel to get the cover off, to get the wheel off.

Can anyone help with these?

Can of worms lol!

steering wheel cover should just pull off its spring clips

hazard switch unscrew the 2 screws in the pod then its easier to remove connector

cheers,

Ill try pulling the center off the wheel than, if i break it ill just put an aftermarket one on.

I have took the screws of the hazard switch assembly, does it then come out the pod? Still cant seem to get to it.

I'm off work now till the 31st so gonna try and do a couple of hours a day on it.

that hazard switch just clips off but u got to give it a bit of a pull.

why do you need to take the steering wheel off?

on the connectors you need to pinch the clips with something like a screw driver then pull it.

gently lever the hazard swich plastic bit above the pod with a screwdriver it will pop off then you can remove the actual switch

ahh, ta hellraiser.

Dont think you can get the dash out with the steering wheel in the way, in any case its just better for access, seats coming out too probably, so i can lie under the dash to get at the clutch pedal etc.

Im changing the heater matrix and clutch booster by the way.

i have removed a whole dash and have one sitting in my garage . any pics etc you need im sure i can get out there to take some ;)

there is a little grub screw for the steering wheel, there should be a hole, dont just pull it cos you'll break the housing inside.

Its on the bottom spoke of the wheel right? Thats what I have been trying at but can find a screw head to undo.

thats right yeah iftheres no screw head its probably been took off before and not put back

If you're talkin about the connector for the sun load sensor, just unwrap most of the foam the you can see the clip to undo it

The internal temp one is on a plastic heater pipe that i pulled out from under the dash, the connector on it is just really tight.

Anyone know if I have to take the center console out to get the dash out or can it be left in?

ya may aswell just take it out mate, you've took everything else out

UPDATE!

Connectors just take a bit of getting used to, finding it easier now.

Steering wheel centre was already broken and the bottom bit had been glued on, this came off quite easy with a bit of tuging.

I have removed all the bodge solder ready for new connectors to go back on.

This is when you wish your car was stock with no inverters everywhere! Its never all gonna work again lol.

Just gotta do the glove box and passanger side now before the dash gets lifted out, will probably pull out the front seats then too.

Do you think the markings behind the gauges cluster are from the factory or has that bit been changed at some point?

Mine causes a large vaccum leak when connected. Pulled the pipe off it engine bay side and bunged with a bolt. No more leak but very sore left leg!

MATE.. thats the exact same scenario with my z, vacume leak so i bunged the hose up with the end of a pen lid, no more leak but very stiff clutch.. i get jelous whenever i drive another car with a lovely light clutch :( wanna cry :(

I got a brand new heater matrix to go in as well as mine is bypassed due to a leak.

haha should be able tro get to the booster from underneath, just got to remove the heater stuff and aircon ecu :)

aircon ecu?

My aircon has been removed, can i remove the ecu or will this mess up my heater controls etc? (when I have changed the matrix to provide some heat) lol

Havent long done my heater matrix i did'nt think it was that bad to do once i had out it back together i left my aircon box in but took the rad inside out and left the ecu in the car as i think it works the whole heating system
