thinking of zed, convince me:) a bit long but please have a look:)

hello to all

as i started new job i am thinking about a decent car now:) couple of years ago i fell in love with 300zx ( especially TT swb) :nana2: what can i say, just want to have one, even if iam into hondas very very much,

however i am anxious about couple of things, and YOU real users might help, if you want :p

i want to ask you about your opinions on:

1) if i buy one it will be (mileage not more than 70-75 000 ) '94 + its a bit old, dont you think?? i might expect some repairs, just because of the age, what can i expect that will need repairing ( pieces of suspension, motor??, rust?? any other stuff?? turbos ) and are the parts available?? are they very expensive.

I am asking about prices, because i am not earning lots, a bit more than 16000/year, and would like to know if i could even afford to run 300zx, or can i just forget about it straight away.

2) import one? or buy uk? is there any major difference?? probably in insurance ( more than 25 y old, clean european driving licence, never owned a car in the uk )

3) if importing ( basicaly i am thinking about it) what company would you recommend?? that either you or one of your friends used, is import-ance worth recommending?? ( they got some nice zeds instock), and i read that jap-city is worth to talk to as well.

4) is it possible (but not waiting for a year) to find a decent unabused!! ( preferably stock) example of 300zx tt swb, 1994 with genuine mileage of no more than 75000 miles, these are powerful cars so probably people who own them "try" them on roads/ tracks.

5) is it possible to get one of these within 5k pounds ( import/ uk) what costs should i be aware of when buying an imported one.

6) what mileage i can expect turbos and other major stuff to die?? again its still linked to the age of the car

7)whats te average miles/pg :)

Some of you will think what a lame questions, but believe me, i really would like to own one, and as i am not from England, dont know the prices, and general costs of running such old but powerful car in GB.

I WILL BE VERY VERY VERY grateful for any answers to my questions, who else can i ask if not the real 300zx Users, who know their every screw:hyper: :hyper:

sorry for any mistakes, i am still working on my english :)

Actually jap city told me i can get 1994 swb with mileage of around 65000 , and auction grade 4+ for around 5500pounds, is that real?? is it possible?? or is it possible but i they will look for one for like a year or so ;)

my major anxiety, is the age and possible repairs i will need to do just o keep it in top condition.

What they said /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\

Anyway. Welcome to the nut house buddy,

There is a very good buyers guide on here.

Should answer most of the quiestions. Best advice is to take your time and look at lots until you find one that is in the best condition you can afford.

Some people will say these cars are unreliable but in my opinion that is mainly because they have not been looked after in the past. There are a few members up in your area who might be able to have a look with you.

Not sure about importing one but again there are people on the forum who deal with things like that.

As for the price of parts there sem to be more of these cars being broken than are being sold. Just a sign of the times I guess as they can be expensive to run. Do a search and you will find plenty of threads about fuel consumption.

Good luck with the search, when you get your Z you won't want to go back to a honda.

buy stellaz the photos dont do it justice, (alan you owe me a :duffer: ) :D

stellaZ: when i saw yours up for sale, i thought, damn why he can not sell it in couple of months :( ut hopefully then someone else will be selling his :D

Coopers-SWB : thanks mate for the link, been there read that, but still i have to know if i can possibly afford that, cuz u can not check everything, and some things may come up just after you have bought your car, aint it??

so you reckon i will be able to keep it running?? while still have some money for food and a place to live?? ;)

earning 16000 a year mate, i'm guessing after tax ur getting 1000ish each month.. work out your expenses, and don't over commit yaself, remember insurance, running costs and if an emergency comes up make sure u have a little to the side lollll..

mine may stil be for sale in a coule of months, got a couple of little jobs to do on it, new hicas rear bushes, cold weather seems to have killed them off lol, may even invest in an after market front bumper (money depending)

i be aware of when buying an imported one.

Hello and welcome...

When I got my zed - I was on a Zimbabwean Drivers Licence, never owned a car in the UK and was 23 (and a girl ;) ) and my insurance was £999.00 per year (Sky Insurance :D ) Just shop around a bit.... :D

Start with something that costs a bit less to maintain, non turbo, I know you want a TT but they are still fast and look just as good.

Your insurance will be a lot less and when it does need to be repaired, and it will, then you don't need to worry about costly things like turbos.

I think that if you get a TT and its a bag of crap then it will put you off the car forever, but if you get an N/A then you can enjoy the car and the club and move up to a TT when you can afford it.

Good luck.

UK (all are TT) car WILL be less to insure than an NA (all imports). Buy StellaZ's - seen it in the flesh and it looks WAYYY beter than in the pictures!

Mines a Uk spec TT auto and its cheaper to insure than an N/A import so if insurance is a problem I'd forget the imports.

I don't know what exactly it does to the gallon but mine isn't good when I'm giving it a bootfull! £20 doesnt get me very far in this car.

They can be money pits mate especially if you get a bad one!

Like everyone says, have a look at the members cars. They have probably been loved and looked after better than most!

thanks ALL for replies,

i was thinking, how age is affecting your 300s?? probably most of you have already changed half of the car:) but what can i expect to change in near future after i buy it?? and if i get a 60k-70k miles car , what will need replacing then? actualy is it possible to get 300zx with that mileage, but not clocked?? (f.ex StellaZ's has quite a few miles but its more trustworthy than 15 year old car with 50k miles on the clock)

sorry for writing one under another, but even thou i am i love with 300zx, i am considering r33 gts t, just because its younger, could anyone ( i noticed there are a few owners of both of them in here:) ) compare them two?? hehe, know maybe not the most popular question on this forum, hehe but maybe halpfull not only for me:)

mine is a 1991 H reg uk tt auto with 60k on clock, full service history so all milage is documented.

there are genuine low milage examples around.

mine will be coming up for sale in a few months, currently upgrading to 99spec front bumper and 99spec rear spoiler.

you say quite a few miles on mine, but it has 140 000, thats below average, my car is 15 year old, its less than 9k a year

you say quite a few miles on mine, but it has 140 000, thats below average, my car is 15 year old, its less than 9k a year

Plus a high mileage is nothing to worry about if you buy a sorted car from this site. Bear in mind that a car which has covered 75-85k miles, but is all original, will need expensive replacement parts in the near future. Whereas something like Stella's car, although it's done 140k, would have already had many expensive parts replaced already...........

As for reliability, I've had mine over 5 years (covering 33k miles) and it's never missed a beat (although it has just developed a slight gearbox fault - throtle position sensor probably). It's a UK spec TT auto with 91k now. I did use it as a daily driver for the first 2 years but it relegated to a second/weekend car now.

Costs - the only thing I will say is these cars have a voracious appetite for fuel and rear tyres! I average 18-20mpg (say 230 miles on just over £60-ish). So if it's your daily driver and you cover a fair few miles it will cost you...........at one point I was driving 250 miles a week :p

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
