Is it possible to remove just the lower part of the engine in order to change pictons or do I have to work my way 'down'?

Featured Replies

Pistons come out the top only IIRC....... Not possible to pull crank out and remove them from bottom :(

Tell me about it! I have to repair the engine in my red car (piston faliure) and it would be nice just to remove crankshaft and repair from the bottom.......... :( oh well :p

I've got to investigate/replace a clacking lifter, so the plenum etc is coming off at the weekend. If it turns out to be something more serious, can I get the heads off with the block still in the car? I've seen an article on the Oz 300zx site that does it with a non-turbo.

Also, with the block still in the car can I get the sump off and the big ends undone and the pistons out?

Basically looking for options without having to get the block out.

BTW It's a 1994 TT UK manual

Much much much less work taking the whole lump out in one!

WRT the threads above, the block needs to come out anyway with piston damage in order to inspect the bores ;)
