Some of you may know (and most of you are bored of hearing about) I am off to Australia in the new year :hyper: Now the thing is, I will be getting another Zed in Aus but it will be hard to find a LWB as most seem to be shorties.

What I would like to know is what are the the diferences of the two cars?

Before you lot start to take the piss I mean how they handle, Audrey was a 2+2 and I loved the way she went around bends and felt good to drive fast, but what will I find with the shorty, are they more twitchy do they feel alot lighter.

Cheers, Scrawni

i have a swb and tbh i think they are excellent for cornering, very controllable nimble and forgiving imo

granted mine is a non turbo

And I do too.

having driven the black 2+2 NA most of this year I now have experience of both.

I know which I prefer. ;) But I wont start another war about it. :nono:

Come up and have a drive in mine. Make up yer own mind. :D

There was a reason why Nissan Z32 racecars were all 2+2s. I love both of them, but prefer the 2+2 shape.

thats very true the 2+2 was supposedly more stable at higher speed but we are talking 150+

And I suspect that part of that reasoning came from the Sales and Marketing department who wanted to promote the more luxurious/expensive versions of the car, in a similar way to Volvo when they chose the Turbo Estate to go racing in. :D

All I will say mate if the only problem is you can only get a shortie, then there aint' no problem!-I loved the wifes white one, much more than my 2+2! ;)

Must admit, the vert is a shorty, alot more nimble around corners than the 2+2 I had.

That was actually done due to the Estate having a lower drag coefficient actually. :)

I think you'll find its was more to with the rules for the class it was raced in that anything else. The shortie's wheel base is to small for that particular class.

I love the lines of the 2+2 as well Funkster but I have seen some stunning shorties in some of the Aussie posts.

Given all things the same (suspension, tyres..etc) then the SWB is definatly the better handler of the two. The lower weight and shorter wheelbase make it a lot nimbler and tighter through the bends.

SWB will go around a bend faster, the LWB will be easier to hold in a drift.

Well you know what i reckon scrawni lol,but im not sure where you have geard there is a shortage of 2+2 here, ive seen more lwb than swb

I've owned both but it is hard to compare as I had soft stock suspension on the 2+2 but coilovers on the SWB.

IMHO - If you try a good SWB you will never want to go back to a 2+2...

I have both and have to say that a well set up 2+2 is far more stable at high speed and through high speed corners. I bought my 2+2 when it was 3 years old and low milage but was never comfortable with the standard handling. Once I had the Stillen anti roll bars ajustable tie bars, camber arms front and rear, strut braces, ladder brace etc and good suspension then it became a totally different animal. You really need to be looking at -3 degree of camber on the rear and a good squat stance to make the 2+2 bite into the corners.

I love my SWB's as well they are nippier and feel faster round tight bends, but not sure if that is actually true. They are twitchier at 90+ mph and they don't feel as planted and they are not as controllerble if you start fish tailing. You have to back out of it a bit with the SWB to get it back under control (which is possibly why I bumped the tree with one of my SWB's) with the LWB you just keep your foot in and steer and it will collect it self back up.

As a Race car project I think the LWB is a better option, but as a fun to drive car I think I prefer the SWB.

That all makes sense.

It probably sounds silly but I think there is also a psychological effect, if you don't have rear seats it just feels more like a sports car! :D
