exactly, and i also have a big front mount.

Are car dolly any good? also known as a tow dolly.

Theses are the funny lil things you sit the front wheel in and the rear wheels make contact with the road, could be a solution. but then where can you hire one from in norwich doh!!

Hi, one of those would be fine, not sure where to get one from, try a trailor hire company, don't forget to disconnect the prop if it's an auto.

Unfortunately it would appear that a dolly is not an option. If they are unbraked, ie don't operate the vehicles brakes then they can only be used for recovery of a broken down vehicle. You can only tow under 750kg with an un braked trailer.

Found this information on this web site.

They do have a list of trailer people in the east anglia area however. I'm sure if you phone some and explain what you need that they will have something.

I seem to remember wozzer saying something about knowing someone with a low trailer. His car is very low and had to be brought back from down south somewhere, it may be worth a PM to him to try and see if h can sort something for you if all else fails.

You can always buy one off ebay if all else fails.

Good luck with it.

Hi, all you need is a recovery truck with a "spec lift", not a tilt and slide.

You must have seen them driving about - normally short little trucks, same size as a luton van, with a frame on the back. When you look at the frame it is the same shape as a pair of glasses, hence the name.

Do the same thing as the dolly, ie pick up the front or back and leave the other wheels on the ground.

Try calling a smaller recovery outfit for a quote.

Or there are tilt and slides that go completely flat on the floor, you will just need to call around.

there's 1 truck called a tri loader! the bed totally comes off like a scaffolders wagon

lol they all sound so expensive.

I've called the trailer man i usually use and said does he have anything more suitable, we then come to the conclusion i was perhaps using a suitable trailer but loading it wrong.

This is what i was doing. We were leaving the trailer hitched to the van, commont sense would tell you to remove the trailer as then you could rotate the rachet lowering the wheel and pushing the rear down making a smaller gradient, i never done it that way before and left it hitched to the van as i assumed it would be un stable and tip onto the back wheels when putting the car onto the trailer.

Is the above correct?

Assuming that the trailer you will be using has the axle(s) placed around the centre, then you will need to leave it hitched up. Unless it has landing legs front and rear to stop it tipping.

You say "that sounds expensive" - have you actually had quotes??

Someone posted that the wheel dollies could only be used to tow a broken down car.

I know that on a standard license you are restricted to 750kg trailer, but there is an exemption for towing broken down vehicles. The solution is very simple - make your Z break down! I'm sure that can be arranged..........

It is a twin Axle (4 wheels).

Nope i've had quotes on renting the usual type trailer for £33 but no other than them ones.

Yeah, that's a real bum as it would of been ideal for the height of the car.

but..... i have now raised the height of the front which hopfully will make it a easier job.

Haha, yeah i could pull that off but my Rac has expired and isn't going to be renewed until start of next year.
