Any ideas...... When I get in the car & start it up ... my brake lights dont work. Switch headlights on, and the back lights work - its just the brake lights (the warning light comes on in the dash when pressing brake) ....... half way through the journey the warning light stops coming on and my brake lights work again

Fuse - checked

Switch on brake pedal thing - checked

Bulbs - checked they arn't blown or loose

Wiring problem maybe? Anyideas where to check first?

have you checked the brake fluid level and the switch on the top of top up,try unpluging it and see iff it still does it

There's not much wiring to go wrong between the unit and the lamps so you could probably rule that one out. The wiring between the front of the car and the unit seems to be OK as it's indicating the fault correctly. Leaves the box and the connections to it really.

Thanks Znut & niggles  .... will give it a go

I had this problem and it turned out to be the woring from the brake light switch to the clusters. If I remember right there was 2 prongs, one coming from the fuse box and one going to the lights.

Try running a temporary wire from the switch to the lights. Should only take 5 mins and if it works great, if not you know where abouts the problem has to be...

Checked everything, changed one bulb coz it looked a bit suspect, it still worked but just didnt look like 'good' and since then they have only played up about twice!

Went to ZMaster's (Andy) place on Thursday night and he had a look over and conclusion - might be the switch on the pedal - so bought a new on on friday and its just wait and see if they go funny again.

Thanks again! :)

That means the brake switch is working
