Our stupid governement is considering, again, making drivers of big engined cars pay £1000 in road tax. Putting the cost of buying a £60,000 Range Rover up is fine, because the buyer will not notice.

The reports I have heard before simply said if the engine did not have a Co2 rating it would go on size, and 3000cc engines would get clobbered.

If this happenes there will be many cars that simply become worthless, who will buy them? Who can afford £1000 for a few thousand miles a year? Also, all people who sell parts, service, or import them will be out of business. Even the insurance companies will notice a drop in revenue.

If we sit back and let this happen the politians will do it. A united front of all forums, owners/drivers clubs etc may help.

But it has to start somewhere. I for one can not afford to throw my 300 away, but neither wil I pay £1000 a year to tax it, nor should I have to.

i cant believe this, how can that possibly be justified, i'm getting abit fed up with the bloody tree huggers and there f*cking carbon footprints. If these f*ckers want to make a diiference to the environment then instead of making us pay for it, why dont they cough up abit, all new build houses bulit with solar panels, free energy saving light bulbs etc etc. And stop the bloody yanks controlling the oil supply coming from the middle east, ffs companies like shell employ and pay people like george bush senior millions to go to semminars and deny climate change or global warming even exists. Why is it that good ol engalnd is continously shit on from europe and the united states, ffs no other country would have the sort of issues we have with immigration, which in my oppinion is the net cause of most of these issues and the idiot socialists that think what they call the "middle class" which in this day seems to be anyone who has a job or it seems a car around 3000cc regardless of the value should be taxed to the f*cking hilt, never mind the damn hard work most people have put in to get something good in life. It makes me sick, it about bloody time that people had some balls and started to stand up and say what everyone else is thinking, but then offcource youd be a right wing extremist, what an absolute travisty, no wonder so many brits are leaving in hoards. And it looks at this rate I and thousands of others will be joining them.

Yeah. It's about time we all stand together and tell this, and any other, government where to get off. It's supposed to be a government 'by the people, for the people', but it looks like they're too far up their own ar!es to realise this, too interested in making easy money out of the ordinary man and woman (and especially the motorist) to be politically correct with handouts to immigrants and getting involved in things that a small country can't afford - Probably just for their own egotistical satisfaction with being 'looked up to by the rest of the world'! What a crock! Petrol prices have got me mad enough (I'm sure I'm not the only one!) - If they try to bring this in too, I'm all for performing a voodoo seance and raising Guy Fawkes from the dead!! Give the guy another chance, I say!! In all seriousness, though, it's about time goverment stopped taking the easy route out and making the average guy and gal bleed money to pay for climate change (and you certainly can only put a small amount of the onus on the car user here) for which he is only a tiny bit responcible. Let's face it - We're only using what is made available and affordable to us, and in the case of us zed owners and the like, something which gives us pleasure and counteracts the hours of slog and thousands in tax which we give away each year. You've got to get enjoyment out of life, and at the rate goverment is going, we'll all only be able to afford to stay inside in dimly lit bedsits with nothing but a bowl of soup for company!! Count me in for any action if they push this through...........

.......Wow! My longest post ever on here - I'm tired now!!

Ye lets organise a massive 5mph crawl in all cities, from 2pm till 6pm (i hate traffic jams!) on a monday.. lol

We could all get lpg conversions or put 650cc Engines in our zeds LOL or even replace the targa tops with solar panels,

Seriously if that is passed then I think i would be speaking for a lot of us we just wont be able to justify spending that much and most of our zeds will just die without being re taxed.. its really upsetting when you think that there even considering this..

zeds are bloody expensive to run as they are....

Thats the normal speed for city driving!!

To be honest, if it gets taht bad i tihnk they will be swamped by people just not paying tax end of the day, if the car isnt registered to you or taxed (therefore not insured) what can anyone do about it.. Okay they could throw the book at the current few who just dont bother, but what could possibly be done if 30million people lost their licenses for driving with no tax.... absolutly nothing.

The system works because most people play by the rules, thye then have the time to analy abuse the few who dont...

So it will just end up in "revolution" people just wont care and chaos will ensue.

And i'll be happy running around my in my 300zx while everyone knocks seven bells out of one another

Oh ye, forgot that, have to be on the motorways then...

Was seriously looking at buying a Zed and was going to look at one tomorrow but will have to re-think now. No way do I want to pay tax at those rates for something that is a toy for me. Well pi**ed off now as I was looking forward to buying something that I had always wanted. Good job on this thread saved me some financial heartache as they are hard enough to sell without a big tax hike.

Well, before we all go ranting and raving....and driving on the motorway @ 5mph...........it might be worthwhile having a read at this:

I just found it on the bbc's website.......but tbh, it still seems like we're gonna get raped, especially if you use the M25 everyday!

That's very old news as well. Not quite as old as the high taxation. I bet they wouldn't abolish road tax nor fuel duty either.

I know this is not NEW news, but the government, esp the current one, is really good at sneaking laws in under our noses, and then it is too late. Just look at the EU constituition, sorry, re alignment.

My reason for starting this thread is to get as many people knowing about it as possible. I hope it just goes away, like the road charging "seems" to have done.

We have a legitimate argument for exemption. But will we be heard?

wow sux to be living in london you get congestion charges as it is ffs i say lets strike :) oh shit we cant hmm then lets erm...Rant Again :(

We do, as do most people who buy a weekend toy. For doing 3,000 miles a year in something at weekends or in the summer, you'd effectively get clobbered goodness knows how much more than someone doing 50k a year in a Prius!

Where will the line be drawn? By that I mean what will be classed as the bottom of the range as far as a large car is concerned. Will it be 3000cc 2500cc or as little as 2000cc. If its been posted already sorry I aint read it all. :D

Will it all change when Tesco's are the government? At least then you will get club card points when you go to the JAE. :D

The pay as you drive option sounds the better of the worst. When you consider the cost of fuel and the cost of tax calculate the lot together for each journey then at around 15MPG and £200 PA the zed might prove cheaper to run under those rules? especially if Insurance goes that way too.

thinks about it. we wouldnt be doing anything eligal, there is no minimum speed limit. it would cause carnage. if they didnt back down we do it once a week till they get the message.

AND! we would be doing the right thing by conserving fuel. :D

viniboy does post like that for breakfast "(come on)" :D

viniboy does post like that for breakfast "(come on)" :D

Clearly he has more to eat for breakfast than me!! :D

I'll get started on draft number 2..........................!

I dont eat breakfast? BUT! lunch dinner and tea....yes! In days gone by I might have had a few things to say but I am more refined these days and leave it to the younger and newer members. :D

Its pointless really to talk about taking action. It wont work. they dont and wont listen. :headvswal

I have come to the conclusion that if this all comes into fruition then I might just strip my car out and turn it into a track car? They surely wont ban them too? The only problem there will be finding another car with enough power to pull the trailer. :D

If you look at the petion on the PM;s website about road charging and how many people signed it, it at least brought it to the governments attention, the same might work for this.

So, we shoud do one, who can write it???

thinks about it. we wouldnt be doing anything eligal, there is no minimum speed limit. it would cause carnage. if they didnt back down we do it once a week till they get the message.

On a motorway there is - technically it's 30mph minimum......... :nelson:

But back to the plot, if the government really plan to increase road tax to £1000 then no-one should just sit back on their arse and accept it........

Richard :(

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
