Clicking relay behind dash ?

I have heard a relay clicking behind the speedo/rev counter the past few weeks. I does it with no throttle i.e. when slowing down. When the relay clicks on and off the car jerks quite a bit as if you are quickly dabbing the throttle. I have checked and adjusted the TPS, the voltage was .444 and I've adjusted it to .452. Only a small difference. I now can't hear the relay behind the dash clicking but my idle is now around 1600rpm. Have I done something wrong or does something else need adjusting ? Does anyone know what this relay is for ? should the relay be clicking on and off depending on where the throttle is ?

And just to add, the idle has now settled but the relay is still clicking and I'm still non the wiser on what it's for  All seems to be fine now though.
