I have decided i want to upgrade my brakes. i have a set of cast iron TT calipers and disks the calipers need a refurb as some of the pistions are siezed!!

i currently have the na aluminium calipers on my z . would i notice any difference with fitting the TT ones if i overhauled the calipers?

My 2ps worth say don't do it - change the rubber beake lines to braided instead - works a treat...

the thing is i need new disks anyway

tbh i dont think id bother bud. I dont know what the spec difference is between the n/a and tt calipers, but im going to guess theyre both still 4 pots.

Personally id go and overhaul your ali ones and get a good set of Goodrige braided hoses and brake cylinder stopper and a set of Performance Friction Brake grooved discs with pads.

The only other worth while thing i would think of doing is go for the whole R33 GTR brembo option. I remember how shite the brakes were on mine, and i know if i get another, the brakes will be the first thing ill be uprating!

Anyway, hope your well bud!

thanks nick im ok cheers. i was just thinking seeing as i have them staring at me with newish disks it would have been worth it! i will check out my calipers and see if they would accept 30 mm disks

It is worth it mate, as you know N/A discs(aftermarket) are not plentyful, they are a thinner disc and would benefit some from decent TT discs and fitting the TT calipers once overhauled. Add some new fluid and braided lines and jobs a goodun ;)

what year is your NA bud

i have been out and measured my ones they are 26 mm ones and the caliper apature is 28 so it a no go!

just been reading up on this smithy, and i may be wrong, but it looks like after 1991 NA discs were made the same thickness as the TT. Saying that i dont know what the diameter difference is between the two

my thinking is that i would be able to get tt stuff easier then na so upgrading with this potentially free calipers and disks would be benificial

after all this fitting stuff how easy is it really to bleed the system!?

TT caliper overhaul it is then!

daunting taking the calipers apart tho. will have to seriously look into this job as i don't like messing with brakes ;)

Sorting the calipers with a repair kit is really easy - don't worry.

I had a 97 Na (untill recently) and it had iron calipers and 30mm disks. I replaced the scruffy iron calipers with '90 alloy Na calipers - great looking - and bought some 2nd hand disks off Andy - and the breaking capabilities were just the same - but it dit have Goodrich braided lines.

Good luck

Jack

Ps - if buying second hand NA disks make sure they come from a manual and not an auto.

I put black diamond drilled /grooved 26mm discs on mine, work great, defo improvement!

I put the TT setup on my old NA, can't say it made a noticeable difference.

The only reason I did this was because it was cheaper/easier to find the TT parts!
