IT Virus question

Hi, is there a way of deleting suspect mail without it opening? I still am receiving a few weird mail`s that i know are suspect because even if I right click to delete they open and a dialog box then open`s and says you have requested to download ???blah blah?? I then have to delete it 3 or 4 times to get rid of it, also why is my Norton anti virus not stopping it? or does it not see it as a problem? any help guy`s oh and by the way my mail system is incredimail.

Hi Jeff

I have the same set up as you, Norton and incredimail. as long as you have the emil scanning option enabled you should not have a problem. Mine has picked up some dodgy attachments and zapped them. I'm not certain but I belive you can only do damage by actually opening the attachment not by just downloading it.

What version of norton are you using? I can bring a system works 2002 disk for you when I see you on the 18th if you like.

If you are on a dial-up connexion then disconnect from the Net before opening any mails. Also, remove automatic Script Enabling in your options - this stops a script from running as soon as the mail is read, even on a preview.

Helps to prevent virusii but won't stop them. Which reminds me, my Norton's needs updating..

Anita.

Get a virus checker like Norton. That checks the email as they come down. You can download 2003 for free at them moment because its a beta. I have it on and I have not had any errors, so its very stable

you can check your e-mail without downloading to your PC by going to www.mail2web.com

You can then delete anything you don't like the look of - even open it - without it getting to your PC (cos it's a web page on someone else's).

Once happy, log off mail2web and fire up your normal e-mail as normal.

Good luck - Gio

If you using an MS Email Client, make sure it's patched so no scripts can be run.
