Hi Guys,

my gear box seems to becoming increasingly

more difficult to select a gear.

Theres no crunching of gears, just the stick is real hard to push in to the gate.

1st and 2nd are the worst more so at start up

and as the car gets warmer the prob seems to ease up.

The clutch is defo on its way out. Are the two related ?

cheers Pete

Pete,

I had this problem recently and it can be any one of a number of problems. Firstly, the gear box oil may need changing. Manuals always have a problem with stiffness of shift stick in 1st & 2nd and crunching from 5th down to 4th at speed. Secondly, the clutch slave cylinder may possibly be seeping clutch fluid and there may be air in the system. Mine is being changed on 19/3. 60 pounds for new slave cylinder plus labour. My clutch was replaced last July so I knew it wasn't the plate. My 300 was checked today and the slave cyl was damp and I have been getting a few wet spots on my garage floor overnight.

May also simply be low clutch fluid level, the check done today revealed that my car was bone dry.
