Luckly nothing which prevents me driving but I have a few problems which I could do with sorting!

Suggestions welcome :D

[1991 JDM TT]

a) revs very variable on idle (800-2000rpm when cold moves up and down) sits at 1100 when warm and in drive with brake down, moves around in idle even when up to temp though.

b) during the above (maybe connected?) you can hear a zzzt zzzzzt zzzt noise from under rear of the car, sounds like some electric motor moving something around. Did wonder if the HICAS was the problem but no warning light and rear wheels not moving when stationary.

c) when driving at a constant 2000 rpm in any gear, you can hear the exhaust note changing up and down, doesn't seem to be changing the revs but can just about be felt and you can see the turbo needle moving slightly.

d) If i pull up stationary at lights and move straight from the brake to the accelerator, the revs drop right down and the car nearly stalls. Doesn't happen if you let of the brake and let the car roll slightly before accelerating.

Recently had the cambelt done and may well have started after this (although maybe i only noticed after the cracking noise from the waterpump went  )

Cheers all! :duffer:

a- could be a faulty temp sender or the Idle control valve

b- sounds like ABS unit in the boot

c- could be clutch slip

d- see A

Doh, should have mentioned it's an auto too...

Could tell it was an auto Zed mate. :D

Sounds electrical.

My advice is to go though every single connector that you can disconnect, from the fuel pump through to the rad, and use a small wire brush and contact cleaner on every one, clean up the contacts and put them back together.

Had something 'similar' when i bought my 91 ukspec manual. Spent a few $ in the process, (ptu, fuel pump, fuel reg)but since i cleaned all the oxide from the +terminals that were showing 'fluff', the old girls run sweet as ever since.

Helps if spend the time reading the tech specs that are available via this site tho.

Just my advice btw.

Cheers,

Pete

Hi mate, sorry for get backing to yer email, i don't get much time on the net recently!

Anyways, as mentioned above the idle air control valve seem likely, see this link from tt.net ( don't forget they are left hookers, lol)

Should you decide to do an ECU check

Noise wise, could be either ABS or fuel pump noisey.

Oh can't see any of them being related to a water pump fitting :)

cheers

really stupid suggestion - slap me if I'm stating the obvious - but the noise (3) isn't the aerial motor is it?? only mention 'cos aerial on mine was knackered, but the motor just kept on whirring away trying to raise it!!!!

Just a thought

Could be your TPS needs looking at too (adjusting)

agreed I did wonder if it was some water ingress into one of the connectors though.

Cleaned up the connectors to the IACV and PTU though and seems to run much better now, idle is perfect again and drives very smootly.

Still seem to have the problem where it nearly stalls when i pull up and set off again (d) though. Will see if this is continuous or just an odd occurance then go round with some proper cleaner at the weekend!
