Hi folks firstly some lovely looking cars on here seeing them has made my mind up that i want one! :D

I was wondering if you could impart soem friendly advice on buying and insuring?

I have no experience of Nissan im a Vw golf man at present and with a limited budget to style the 300 series looks the business and the fact theres such a big following for the car that gives me some confidence.

If you were me and had about 3k to spend on one what things would you look for and what could i hope to expect from this amount the other thing i need to consider is the fact im 27 and have been driving for only a year (i know bit of a lazy one!)

My current car is a mk3 golf gti 8v so theres going to be insurance to consider my current fully comp amount is £401 which considering it was £698 last year isnt bad!

Does servicing cost a lot?

Is there a lot to consider from the import versions?

i would want a manual gearbox, are these harder to find?

what sort of things can go wrong and can it turn into a money pit quickly?

I have lots more im sure but i thought i would take it easy with my first post!!

thanks for any input folks

Kev :duffer:

Good stuff. What's the matter with your VW, are you a mech?

LOL!! i wish i was mate wish i was Im in IT wrong career choice for car fixin!

She failed on brakes so ive done most of that myself then 2! VW dealer's gave me the incorrect bleed procedure! so after much swearing ive given up for now as the car is at oldmeldrum and its a nightmare getting bus's. she also needs a small brake pipe and the rear brake compensator valve free'd up but im not the greatest under a car.

then a retest and she should be fine BUT if i do decide to keep her then she will need a new timing belt a new clutch and a full service and theres a couple of small rust patchs showing!!

was quoted about £825 for the lot on average....

considering she's got 132k and was quite cheap (bought in glasgow) i might just run her over winter and sell her on, theres nothing wrong with the clutch per say but you know what like when its yours you want it perfect.

Im guessing you know your stuff if your making your TT a mechano project

I'm a rig-mech, work on-shore at the two test rigs at the B.O.D. I have a pipe flareing tool for brake pipes if you need a borrow. Have done the 60k service to the zed also so a belt on a golf should be easy (not wanting anything to do with it tho :smash: ). Give me a PM if you need it mate.

Hi folks me again!

Ive been looking at the 200's but there are sooo many nice rides on here i keep coming back to the 300's na, from reading the post's it does seem like there a BIT cheaper to run and i guess if i did go for one i would have to accept the fact that im too stay single and stop going out as much!!

Question for you tho i know ive asked about insurance but as theres so many different mods done to these cards it would be hard for me to get an accurate "imaginary" quote from an insurer.....

SO any else around the 27 mark with not a huge amount of driving experience under thier belt? how much do you need to fork out and do you declare everything?

thanks again

drooling over pics....

follow yourt heart not your head thats what all of us did, regret it!, not a bit

p.s. zed off road needs two new turbo,s and more getting sorted on the 9th nov

more wallet failure, but ive had it 8yrs ,300ttauto jap

MOT they normally fail so (£400ish) repairs are often and more likely than not expensive (£1000 a year).

If your car is maintained properly it shouldn't ever fail an MOT. My Blue car has always passed not even an advise in 7.5 years. As do all my cars.

So your looking at £3k a year to run without fuel or tax or insurance.

Don’t mean to put you off, but think hard about it, and if you do buy you will love every minute of it and will always get loads of help from the people on here.

The rest of what you say is correct though I'd say mine used to cost me about £5500 a year for everything except insurance. That was doing about 24K miles a year.

hmmm Im still looking at the 300s the more i read up on them ,google, wiki, fan sites the more i want one just need to know if i could afford to be without a cxar if it failed or something expensive went wrong as im not in a position "as yet" to be able to afford such high running cost's BUT maybe you will see me on here with one ;)

hopefully....

My advice is to steal a petrol tanker then that should save you a few grand a year!! coz the zeds love to stop at every garage they come across!!

hopefully....

Had a BMW318is (wife got it now) only put an extra 20% in fuel costs so its not that bad insurance up by 50% tho.

Iv just used a full tank in 290miles cost about £65. 10 years no claims, fully comp, no claims protection, legal protection and something else?? for £500 the year with elephant.co.uk or £365 in one lump sum..
