Yes, as we all know, funkysi has complete and utter dis-interest in Christmas.

Since we've also had such a lame summer, thinking about getting away for a few weeks over xmas. Possibly UAE, although probably would not stay in Dubai as I know of a little place down the coast called Khor Fakkan which I stayed at a few years ago. Very very quiet, but very nice.

Flights are devilishly cheap at the moment for that period which is quite surprising.

Anyone else been to the UAE over Xmas at all? Anyone going away this Christmas?

but mate if you go away for christmas you'll get no pressies cause santa wont be able to find you

Sounds good!!

I'm off to spain over Christmas and new year as my Mum lives there and my sister lives in Germany so gives us all somewhere in the sun to get together!!!!

I went away to spain a couple of years ago and didnt enjoy it at all, missed my xmas dinner ended up having an indian instead, lol

Yes, my folks live in Dubai and we were there over Christmas last year. Really nice time considering the Emirates are predominantly Islamic. Lots of expats leave to go home but the atmosphere is still very pleasant. Can't beat the weather either. December falls in the "cooler" months which means an average temp of 24C and loads of sunshine! If my folks weren't going to Holland this year we'd be going there for Christmas!

PS - may I join you in the "I hate Christmas" club? Can't stand that time of year!

I'm having a BBQ on a Caye on Christmas day. My first one over here and really looking forward to it. Get totally away from the normal last minute shopping, relax on a sandy beach and be warm!!!

OH, forgot to say I was in a beautiful bay in Bequai (Caribbean) on a yacht i was sailing on for about 5000 miles last christmas :hyper: :hyper: :D

I lived in Dubai for 8 years and spent all my Christmas' there. Open pressies in the morning and then off to the beach or swimming pool!

Ahhhh memories of Toytown!!!.....Used to live in Sharjah and commute in Dubai in 1999 then they stopped you driving across the desert between the lakes to get to Shindaga tunnel so i moved up-town!!....Visited Kor Fakkan and the rest of the East coast a few times at weekends - Less nightlife agreed, but a long way to go for a quiet week off! Never stayed for Chrimbo and managed to get home each year for for 2 or 3 weeks so never wintered there before!

If you want quiet and cheap Si get a cheap flight to Faro (portugal) and drive down to Sagres....nice and quiet, cheap, and a bit of Surf Culture if you fancy it.

Otherwise the canaries? (Correlejo, Fuertaventura is nice and quiet).

I can't sit still on hols so tend to aim for decent Surf/Dive spots really. If you want to chill and considering Dubai and surroundings, then i'd look at a travel operator in Dubai and get flights to the Maldives from there if you're going that far! Flights out to Kish Island (Iran) are also interesting alternatives to Kor Fakkan!!! Still have mates there if you need anyone to share a pint on Christmas day!!

I can get a flight for £350. 4 star hotel in Khor Fakkan is a whopping £35 per night! LOL

It's only a 6 or 7 hr flight. Can't imagine that I'll have to put up with Slade or Wizard or anything over there! LOL

I was there near to Christmas a few years back. I was in Dubai and I went to a club where the entertainment was some cheekies dancing in mini santa outfits.

Also when I came to check out of my hotel (which had a big Christmas tree in reception) there were a load more girls in santa outfits with short skirts dancing around the tree.

So for those two reasons I think you're right not to go to Dubai, Christmas celebrations like that suck don't they :D
