I like fireworks, but IMO, they should not be for every chav to buy over the counter. When all said and done, they are Explosives! I feel that they should be used for organized displays only, and the organizers, should have to obtain a licence from the Police or the council. :nono:

I think there are far more deadly things out there for sale all year round to the general public that I would worry about more than fireworks.

Dont Agree I am afraid,

We live under enough rules thank you very much.

As I have said in a previous post I love fireworks and once again

this year will be lighting around 5-600 quids worth up in my garden with Family freinds and their kids. Why should I suffer my enjoyment just because

the powers in charge are incapable of controlling the unsavoury element in our society

Spot on there, buddy - let's face it you can't legislate away every social ill - it all boils down to trying to teach these a-holes a bit of respect for others...

Inappropriate use of fireworks by scrotoid should be answered once with a proper ticking off and a reminder of other peoples' rights and a second time with a battering from a local copper and confiscation of fireworks. :slap:

so what about all the animals that are killed or abused with fireworks by teenage scum?

I have to say I would love to see them banned. They drive the dog mad, which in turn drives me mad. The only problem is that another ban of something dosen't mean it will stop. There are laws in place already that should stop people under age getting hold of them and it is supposedly illegal to let them off after 10pm.

The way it should be is that you should be able to apply to the council to have a display in your back garden. The only problem with that will be they willl want you to have fire exstinguishers and fire appliance in the street etc as a safety measure just in case.

As said before we need to teach people to have respect for others, this applies in everything in life not just firworks.

By the way while we are on about possible stupid laws, who was aware at the time that the age to buy cigarettes had gone up to 18?

I think some people are missing my point, I didnt say Ban them, I meant ban them being sold over the counter to just anyone, as in your average 18 year old scum bag.

so what about all the animals that are killed or abused with fireworks by teenage scum?

Take away the fireworks and they will kill/abuse them some other way if they are that way inclined :(

Its not the fireworks that are the problem ;)

I disagree nick, the fireworks encourage them IMO.

Then maybe we should also stop selling lighters cos it encourages arson.

Or maybe ban shops cos it encourage kleptomaniacs to steal.

I know what you mean and agree it does encourage them, but banning firworks wont stop w4nkers being w4nkers

I agree with this comment, where do you draw the line?

if fireworks are banned so should 2.2 rifles/knifes/swords! if these shitheads had no fireworks they could shoot animals instead.

a ban over the counter wont deter kids getting hold of fireworks, they would simply ask someone to get them, just the same as i did as a kid asking a person to go in the shop and buy me cig's LOL

BAN THE FOOKIN THINGS.

They should only be used for public organised displays. They are going off from 7 am all day until about 3 am round here driving my dog banana's, drives my wife to distraction and I am loosing so much sleep. Organised displays are so much better.

As for being dangerous. YES! they are but so is getting up in the morning. :D

I think that the poll speaks for its self so far.

Raise the age of buying them to 30 or somthing

Good Idea

Anyone stuck a banger in a cowpat, graet fun!

Or cooked a tattie in a bonfire, brilliant!

Or emtpied the contents of several fireworks into a pile to make a genie, superb!
