Has anyone here ever tried to do a live webcam stream to a website?

With the baby due in the next couple of weeks I want to put a live webcam stream to my website, so I can open up a browser at work and have a look in the nursery.

The problem is I cant find any decent streaming software that is easy to use and configure.

Has anyone here tried it, got it working and can give me any advice?

I suppose the very simplist way would be to create a new msn account and have it running on a home pc then you would be able to log in to msn anywhere and view the webcam, you wouldnt have any control of it this way though and the image would be quite small as well.

Frequent static updates would be easier to do than streaming and much more bandwidth friendly.

aah, maybe I should explain. Firstly I work at many different client sites using thier PC equipment. None of them would allow me to install MSN.

It really does need to be streamed to my website. that way I only need an internet connection, which I always have access to.

Agreed, and I could manage ftp'ing an image every 5 seconds or so..... but I really want to stream as its something I haven't done before and I have family all over the world who would love to look in on the baby too.

What about using an IP camera????

Have you used one?

My only worry with one of those is I want to incorporate the stream into my existing website. Because they have their own webserver - how easy would it be to do that?

I am happy to take advice if anyone has used one or got it up and running?

I used to have the old version of this one. It worked really well and required no special client software IIRC (need to check this!) I just used it as a security camera when I was away from home, but it would suit your application just as well...

try webcamXP it turns your pc into a streaming server if you can manage to config the router/firewall correctly...http://www.webcamxp.com/

If you do a bit of digging (ahem fileshare) you might find the free version :D :D
