Hey guys my newly bought car is ready for driving, but there are irritating things that must be solved. If you know how to fix them/what they are or could be or where I could buy replacements and have them fitted then please please help. I AM RELYING ON YOU as my local nissan garage has said they will not service my car as it's a jap import

1. my rearview mirror keeps dropping. where do i get a new one?

2. there is an irritating squeaky sound that comes from the front of the car closer to the drivers side. its especially evident on bad roads but often hushes up for over several minutes. what could it be?

3. the rollup cover for the boot has a clip missing but i want to get a whole new roller and cover as the old one is very dirty and does not roll up well. where can i buy this part? how much? etc

4. there is a black round plastic screw cover missing from the driver side interior handle hole. where? how much?

5. the passenger seat interior handle plastic looks yucky? where? how much?

6. the passenger door window plastic pops out too easily. where? how much?

7. I want a coupla proper funky 300zx keys as i had on my uk car years ago. you know the rounded greyish metal ones. where? how much?

8. should i take all of the tools out the boot as they are making a racket on the bumpy roads or should i just spend the time to put them in the right places. got any photos how it should all be placed in a jap car?

9. my car had a jap sticker on the engine which said lots in japanese and "replaced 80234" I am assuming this meant the cambelt. the sticker was removed by the garage that just did my first service  how do i check that the cambelt has been changed and same for the water pump. also is the water pump normally changed when the cambelt is done?

10. the speedo backplate, and this is a funny one, has the "k" in "km/h" covered by a black marker. looks cheap and awful, but has the bonus of me not wanting to look at the speedo when maybe i should :hyper: where can i get a replacement back of the main speedo dial?

whew. and now the less vital bits.

a) where can i get the same steel/aluminium plate for the whole speedo as Jay?

b) where can i get the same mid console aluminium frame as Jay?

c) where can i get the same handbrake handle as steve-300zx?

d) where did steve-300zx get his interior leather with piping done? how long does it take? how much? approximately? should I get it done in black or cream/magnolia on a black car? I am thinking magnolia for sure, but everyone keeps telling me it's too 80's/90's... what do you think?

e) I want to get the standard alloys to look dark grey like the standard trispokes on celica gt4's. Should I just paint them? or powder them, whatever that means, as suggested by my local garage?

f) I want to fit the 99 rear spec lights and black bit above them, but will only do so if I can get clear and then smoked grey siderepeaters, clear front indicators and also smoked side reflectors on the back end of the car. where, how much, when?

g) navan auto gearstick - will it fit my 94/lwb/auto/jap? where and how much?

Finally if there is anything else you recommend - I am all ears. Thanks for your time guys!

or if its a bit further back it could have a rattle glovebox catch like mine does... The single most annoying thing in the world and i should be allowed to kill people when it vibrates!

I'm sure its not the glove compartment - will chekc if its the bonnet catch but i dont think it is - will get it checked... need more ideas, but thanks for your thoughts, guys... going for a drive now :smw: not going anywhere is particular :)

ahhh the squeeking returns, check all the bushes on the front suspension, my pet sqeek turned out to be the gaskets that go in the top shock mounts at the front, a little metal to metal contact and its squeeky time, it drove me insane for weeks. As you can see i'm not yet recovered.

Most of the bits you want, I got, drop me a PM.

Theres always AndyZ in the traders section. Seems to have most bits as well. Then of course there is always ebay for some of the bits.

Good luck with getting it sorted.

Darrell

squeek was solved on mine by replacing the bonnet rubbers that sit at the front corners that the bonnet rests on

water pump is a replace item with the 60000 mile service along with belt

Thank you people. will PM/email everyone this evening about the parts! Thanks for the support. I am now fully insured and driving far more, shall we say adventurously :nana2: Also I am on brand spanking new P6000 225/60ZR16's and I have to say I much prefer 225 on the rear than the 235s or 245s I used to have on my uk car... lots more :hyper:

theres no way ide feel safe with 225 on my rears mate  do you mean from a tire screeching point of view or the way the rear end gets out??

dude, people pay to hear me talk, to share my thoughts, to write. Count yourself lucky it's all free to you due to your good taste in cars (if not rear spoilers) and watch and learn... Whoops just realised from your photos you are a woman. that explains it. you are right - I am sorry - You win - It will never happen again.

P.S. Want your clear siderepeaters and rear side reflectors! where, how much, etc?

the car drives better, less noise for sure, more fun and don't forget I have an auto... to me this baby is a cruiser... if wanted a 300 racer I'd get SWB TT slicktop manual ;) if it was powerful enough for me...

mate on a auto the rears are much more important, mine was a auto and I still find 265 at the rear only just enough, you need more grip at the rear in a auto cause it will shock you on some bend or roundabout sometime and the tyres will be the only thing between you and the hedge

you're running 380bhp, my friend and i'm running stock and will be for a long long time... maybe until my zed just dies... in fact, hopefully until i die! :smw:

even stock my auto was entertaining in corners, specially when wet or icy, the season we are just entering, but its up to you, the only good thing was it does let go slowly so you have a chance to correct.

The squeaky sound is probably the bonnet catch needing some grease on it.

It turned out that this is all it ever was! I am so chuffed! :smw:

I didn't read anyone elses replyes so these answers may be duplicates. Sorry if they are.

1. my rearview mirror keeps dropping. where do i get a new one?

3. the rollup cover for the boot has a clip missing but i want to get a whole new roller and cover as the old one is very dirty and does not roll up well. where can i buy this part? how much? Etc

Again ask in the wanted section or ask one of the traders on this side who deals in Z parts.

4. there is a black round plastic screw cover missing from the driver side interior handle hole. where? how much?

5. the passenger seat interior handle plastic looks yucky? where? how much?

6. the passenger door window plastic pops out too easily. where? how much?

Ask in the traders section or wanted section of this forum, 2nd hand one is just a good, just make sure it's a nice stiff one :smw1:

2. there is an irritating squeaky sound that comes from the front of the car closer to the drivers side. its especially evident on bad roads but often hushes up for over several minutes. what could it be?

It sounds like the drivers side because that's the quickest way for the sound to get to you. 9/10 times it's the bonnet catch at the front center of the car. Wrap some insulation tape round the bar of the catch then add a little greese and it should go way.

7. I want a coupla proper funky 300zx keys as i had on my uk car years ago. you know the rounded greyish metal ones. where? how much?

If you are talking about the titanium keys, I don’t think you can get these cut for your car. They are a limitied edition and very hard to get hold of. The only option you have is to find somone who is breaking a Z and ask if they have the titanium keys, if they do you will need to buy the keys, the door locks, the ignition barrel and the boot lock, so that your new keys fit all the locks, make sure to test that the one key fits all locks before you buy as it is quite common that people replace just one lock and not all as a set due to break in's etc.

8. should i take all of the tools out the boot as they are making a racket on the bumpy roads or should i just spend the time to put them in the right places. got any photos how it should all be placed in a jap car?

I would leave them in but you may want to either buy on eof the official polystyrene tool holders that should have come with the Z along with the little leather / plastic pouch, or you could always buy yourself a small bag or even wrap them in a cloth (I'm sure you'll need something to wipe your hands on after changin the tyre anyway ).

9. my car had a jap sticker on the engine which said lots in japanese and "replaced 80234" I am assuming this meant the cambelt. the sticker was removed by the garage that just did my first service  how do i check that the cambelt has been changed and same for the water pump. also is the water pump normally changed when the cambelt is done?

The water pump should always be changed when you change the cambelt, it's a 5 min job once you have the front stripped off, but a couple of hours at least if you just want to change the water pump again. Your cambelt should be changed every 60k miles. The garage should not have removed the sticker so you will need to make a record of the mileage it stated so you know when to do your next one. I'm thinking that your Z is in km rather than miles, you can by a conversion kit from the zcenter.co.uk to change the speedo to MPH if you like. There's no real way to see when the cambelt was changed apart form service history documents, but then even these can be a little fraudy at times. If in any doubt get it changed again. A snapped cambelt = new engine £££, cambelt and pump change is about £400 - £600 or cheaper if you do it yourself.

10. the speedo backplate, and this is a funny one, has the "k" in "km/h" covered by a black marker. looks cheap and awful, but has the bonus of me not wanting to look at the speedo when maybe i should :hyper: where can i get a replacement back of the main speedo dial?

Looks like someone has already converted it from Km/h to mph, so ignore my comment after question 9. You can get a new mph speedo set from the wanted section or a trader who is breaking Z's. Easy to fit. You could even go with some after market dials of a different colour or indiglow ones, what ever your preference is. There are quite a few versions o the market you just need to search around a bit.

a) where can i get the same steel/aluminium plate for the whole speedo as Jay?

b) where can i get the same mid console aluminium frame as Jay?

PM Jay ;)

c) where can i get the same handbrake handle as steve-300zx?

d) where did steve-300zx get his interior leather with piping done? how long does it take? how much? approximately? should I get it done in black or cream/magnolia on a black car? I am thinking magnolia for sure, but everyone keeps telling me it's too 80's/90's... what do you think?

PM steve ;)

e) I want to get the standard alloys to look dark grey like the standard trispokes on celica gt4's. Should I just paint them? or powder them, whatever that means, as suggested by my local garage?

Get them sand blasted and then preped by a wheel specalist who can then powder coat them for you.

f) I want to fit the 99 rear spec lights and black bit above them, but will only do so if I can get clear and then smoked grey siderepeaters, clear front indicators and also smoked side reflectors on the back end of the car. where, how much, when?

Check http://www.zcenter.co.uk for most of the clear bits including the 99 specs. I personally got all my lighting from the states as there is a guy on the TT forum that makes the diamond clear stuff, these are crystal clear lenses. Just remember you will need amber bulbs for the indicators.

g) navan auto gearstick - will it fit my 94/lwb/auto/jap? where and how much?

C286V40P00.jpg

This one ?. This will fit any Automatic 300zx regardless of where it was made. PM daves_zed as I'm sure he did a group buy on these a while back. They ar enot cheap mind you, you are looking at about £200 for one of these babies if I'm not mistaken.
