There were 3 '99's yesterday. LOL.

This was one of them...Nice. :D

BTW. I could possibly put you in touch with the right people to get one too. :D

are we able to get 99's in the country now?

how much do they roughly go for?

Your question has been passed on to the appropriate people and I am awaiting an answer. As soon as i know I will post it up here.

I would have thought they can as they are being featured on the auction site?

This came up before and some people think you can get them now or in 2009 and some people say you'll never be able to get them without the SVA (at a cost of serveral £1000s with no guarantee of a pass and the same charge to re-test - or something)

Rules state that if less than 10 years old, it must have the SVA test which cannot be done on a car with an engineers report, which the Zed doesn't have, so it's 2009 until a 99 spec can be brought in and registered on UK roads.

I thought there were changes to the 10 year rule a while back, to include any car made after 1997 wether 10 years old or not would require a SVA...meaning the 99spec can not be registered without a model report even after 2009

As far as I was aware you will never be able to import a 99 model without a model report. Even after 10 years, as the changed the rules so its any car less than 10 years old AND made after 1997.

Unless that changed the rules back to just the 10yr rule again.

Oh no, thats even worse than what i put, sorry folks :D

smithy

ok..been researching and looks like the 1997 rule may now be obselute and only a rolling month by month 10 yr rule applies. :hyper:

I wonder how you could go about registering a 1999 car as older than it is.....I know it is possible...legally or not, as I know somebody with a 2000 supra who had to do exactly that to get his through registration.

There is a way that involves shipping to Ireland and registering it there first I believe. Not sure exactly how it works but I think this is one way that the Skyline R34 GTR can be brought into the UK.

Don't know much about it and could be totally wrong, but I am sure I read this somewhere...

As I am not that up on these things I had to ask. From what I have been told its more or less what Smithy said.

no problems getting one' date=' but no one has done a model report.this means that a sva would be very costly.you could get a 1998 and wait for it to be 10 years old.[/quote']

I asked and this is the reply I got back. which I s'pose misses the point?

So looks like a false alarm. Sorry. But whats it all about? whats a SVA? and why is it so hard to import a car when everything else isnt?

Could you not just go over there and drive the fooker back? Once here there are a thousand ways to get it sorted? :D

Getting one here is'nt the problem, its getting it registered it once its here.

Its all to do with Guidelines set out by Road transport for Road safety..etc that they require an SVA test to ensure that they meet regulations, and to perform an SVA test there needs to be a Model report for the examiners to base the test on. They are clamping down hard on Aftermarket products and changed made , so the model report details many specifications and if the car does not match up, then it fails.

Not quite sure why they deem that if the car is older than 10yrs the rules dont apply...but thats a good thing for us :)

That would be great - I would be very tempted by a '99 (or 2000) TT. Converting the NA doesn't really make sense for me.

OIC. thanks bud. I remember this "Type Approval" thing being a local rule for new vehicles was going to be introduced a few years back on motorbikes to cut out the customising and chopping of them. When I had my new MG ZT it had a Type Approval number on the log book. If it isn't that hard to get one in. then it wouldnt be that hard to get one sorted. :D ;) I am sure I have seen R34's 2000 & 2001 imports for sale. I spose they must have has a report done?

Yes, if a car's had a model report done then people can bring them in no matter what age they are.

I thought it would have been worth the club getting a model report for late 300ZXs but if we can bring them in anyway from 2009, it's not really worth it I guess.

As far as I found out, however, this was another Royal balls-up of legislation brought to you by a load of people who didn't seem to know what they're on about.

I believe that some of the cars disassembled to make the model reports were themselves not standard, thus, the model report requires a car to be taken back to a non-standard spec to get SVA approval.

I'm not 100% sure, but I was looking to start up a website importing to order, specialising in this sort of area, a couple of years back, and this is what I found out from my UK contact in Japan. So I'm pretty sure it's true.

What a farce. :mac1:

Thank God for the 10 year rule!

i know of someone who bought an s15 in to the country, problem was the sva test meant it would cost 1000's to put it back to standard even alloy wheels/brakes have to be oem etc. Guy sold it to someone who could change the bodykit and parts! once sva'd you can put it all back on LMAO

If you brought a car into the country that was basically in bits. (by whatever standard ie: engine out or doors off) would that not be classed as spares? then you could put it back together and say you built it? It would be registered by the chassis year of manufacture (I dont think they do "Q" plates anymore) could this not be a way round it? Sounds like the SVA is just like Type Approval?

I looked at importing a replacement for my Wifes TRD Celica. I was told buy the VOSA people that if the car was made after 1997 and a model vehicle report was not avialable I would have to do one of 2 things. I could have the car ESVA's £2500 and apply for a model report £7000. This would mean any future cars of that model could be brought in a SVA's £60 providing that the importer could produce a model report. (they would have to rent it from me at a charge usually of £500 per batch)

The car must be as it was built at the factory and conform exactly to the model specification.

So you can bring in a box standard 99 spec car in so long as you have it ESVA'd and that costs £2500

The TRD celica would have cost £15500 and with the ESVA £18K on the road.

basically you need a model report to import a 99 spec z32 and as its been mentioned before there isnt one. you can comission one to be made but it would cost a lot of money to be done as the car will need to undergo a number of tests until it meets the correct euro emissions for 1998/1999/2000/2001 cars, and could include the need to make an elaborate exhaust like the one needed when importing an r34 gtr.

the problem with this is that it isnt viable for anyone to spend that kind of money to make a report for a car that, lets face it, hardly anyone will buy.

there is however, the possibility to do a one-off noise and emissions test afaik (for cars without a model report) but no one has the balls to bring a 99-spec car and try that out incase it doesnt get through!! i looked into this a couple of months ago and i too, dont have the balls to import something that could cost tooooo much or end up being an expensive ornament.

Thats right and the noise emissions test is called and ESVA. However the standard emissions out put of the 300zx does qualify with EU specs unless the car is knackered.
