Just wondering id there's anyway of speeding up a standard 56k modem or is the next step to go broadband?

Cheers

No. There is no way of making a modem faster.

Infact it is damn near impossible to get the full speed out of a modem because phone lines are not able to carry the flow.

If you are getting a connect of 52,000 when you log on, you will never get more than that. If you are only getting 46,000 change of ISP could help and even changing the cable you use to connect to the phone line.

But in general Bradband is now the only way to go forward.

cheers for the answers. I got 20.7 kbs which according to them is poor - great.

Any idea on where to look for cheap broadband or is it all around the £25 mark?

Thanks

Vijay

Vijay try this one www.xtreme.pipex.net/adsl/sales/

I'm with these and i'm connected at 460kbs at the moment and its busy!

£25 a month yes, but on line 24hrs and I can use the phone at the same time.

When someone posts a good Video mow I can actualy watch it!

There are a lot of good deals at the moment.

Pipex were doing free adsl modems with conection.

Not sure if they are now though.

Im on broadband (Cable) and thats £25 a month, and Im very happy. Warren has just gone from ADSL to Cable and hes happy with the change.

I get a rating of Great! biggrin.gif 506KBS

1Mb file in 16.6 seconds.

Put it this way. For maybe £10 a month more, you should be getting 25times faster than what you are getting now. Download whole MP3's off the net in about a minute.

Change if I was you.

blueyonder have released a 1mb line for 10£ per month more than the normal cable line too

Ay

Tell me about it, but is there an easy of transferring your favourite places over?

Mark

My sister installed AOL and started to have problems after like

Hotmail didnt work. Apparenly AOL dont want you using that because they would prefer you using theirs, so they block it.

All online shopping sites didnt work when sending card details. Every one got timed out.

Internet Explorer didnt work.

Kazaa doesnt work, Audiogalaxy doesnt, or any P2P file sharing.

Messenger wouldnt send files.

To name a few.

I only use the brakes so I can accelerate all over again.

If you're in a cable area, they usually have the best deal.

Next best is ADSL from a non-BT source (actually, ALL ADSL is from BT Wholesale but sold thru different suppliers like BT Openworld, and other ISPs. Inless you're in Hull.)

Then comes ADSL from BT Openworld.

If you're not in cable / ADSL areas then hybrid satellite, or 2 way satellite or terrestrial microwave are your only choices.

Hybrid Satellite - www.beyondsl.net

Two way - see BT or places like www.aramiska.com www.web-sat.com

microwave http://www.tele2.co.uk
