....Has anyone managed to fit a baby/child seat into the rear of a Jap spec. car?

The rear belts are only lap belts!..Could I perhaps convert them to UK spec?

You would think they would have designed both uk and jap spec cars to take baby seats in the rear. As that is about ALL you can fit in them!!

Don't know about coverting the jap belts to

uk ones Jez. BUT if you can, the baby seat I have fits with the belts in my UK spec Z fine.

Yes you can put the UK rear belts into a Jap spec Z. I have done this and it involves stripping out the side panelling and rear quarter window panels. The hole templates are already marked on the back of the plastic panels and the body shell is drilled and tapped to take the shoulder restraint.

The hard part is removing the telescopic hatch restraints. The rear hatch on these cars weighs alot!

Then I have a perfect baby seat where the base fits nicely into the bucket section of the seat.

The wife insisted on the fitment of the above and I wasn't sure it was going to work at first.

Mine is Jap spec and it doesn't have lap belts. They are two point jobbies (shoulder & lap) like in the back of most cars.

Hi,

Where did you get your UK belts from?I was thinking that perhaps I could get some from a scrapped car, particularly as the rear belts would have been rarely used.

Is it a major job to remove the rear interior panels?

My daughter uses a rear facing baby seat in the front seat at the moment, but will soon need to move to the rear...I don't want to have to sell my Z, as my wife has hinted!

I noticed in the handbook that Australian spec cars have fixing points for child seats under the rear boot carpet..I haven't checked my car though.

I bought my uk belts from Mike at MJP for £70 each

I then asked Ray at Simpsons New Malden to fit and he charged £70 and did a great job.

My UK spec TT has two baby seats in the back as Stock :o)

Hey Simon,

No it was Stock on UK cars, it deffinatly wasn't a option in the states on tt's tho. ;o)

lol.

I was only Joking bud, but i challenge you to get anything a great deal larger than a baby into the back seats of my Z (limb breakage and joint dislocation not withstanding ) and i will conceed the point hehe.

Steve E has a really good tip for obtaining some UK spec belts - you write off your UK spec car and then buy a jap one. Works every time.

;)

Thanks,

I've contacted Mike feeney to see if He has a UK belt available.
