Hi Ian,

For around £450 you can buy the Smithy's Big Brake Kit which consists of bigger discs (324mm x 30mm) and Porterfield brake pads. This setup utilises the stock calipers which will be relocated to fit the larger disc by means of "relocation" brackets (included in the big brake kit). The only two other items I would suggest you buy is a caliper rebuild kit, stainless steel braided brake lines (around £65~£70 for the fronts) and some new brake fluid.

(all the above - with exception of the brake fluid - can be obtained via ourselves)

PS - the above big brake kit makes it possible to swap the stock calipers for Skyline R33 calipers if/when a pair come up for sale without having to spend any further on brackets/discs/etc.

drain and refill with quality fresh(ie from an unopened bottle) dot4 brake fluid first, it probably hasnt been changed in a gazillion years, change the pads as suggested earlier and check the calipers for seized pistons

is it dot 4 that these cars use????

I was having a rake through the stores at my work the other day and found gallons of the stuff.

Anyone any ideas how much it'll take to fill the system???

dot 4 or if you drain the systym you can use 5.1

not sure on how much, but if you do a complete flush through a ltr should be adequate

Thats the best way, best stopping power per £

Firstly and probably teh cheapest will be to overhaul the brake system.

Ensure the callipers are working correctly, change the fluid, pads and disks.

Then braided hoses and smithys big brake kit.

The next would be upgrding to the R33/34 brembo callipers and disks.

Then it would be going for one of the new options on the market.

Hope this helps.
