That is the question. Evening peeps. Before I invest in decats is it worth in in your opinion?

Jap spec TT '90 with apprx 70k mile (114000km) on clock. Car has trust cat backs already fitted and I'm waiting arrival or apexi air funnel. I'm concerned about speeding up turbo wear against potential realistic driving gains. It's an auto has been well looked after and I will be doing about 5000-10000 a year in it. Hate to have the pipes done and 12 months later have the turbos pack in costing £1000's that I don't have. Any advice or experience would be cool

If they're your worries, then I'd suggest you don't bother lol. Decat certainly speeds up the turbo failure. However, they're gonna go one day anyway. *IF* you do decat then make sure you replace the PCV valves AND hoses before doing it to reduce the risks....

Have you fitted an auto oil cooler yet? That would be more advisable imo

Hi does that cool the engine oil or auto box oil? sorry for my ignorance but I'm a chippy and not the best with cars

Auto box oil. If you're starting on the mod route then its an ABSOLUTE MUST if you own an auto....

surely not go udders up that quick would they????? if they did after i did the other work first, does the engine have to come out? I have heard turbos can be removed whilst engine in but it's time consuming. What would turbo overhaul cost using stronger parts ot inc fitting etc????? nice to know just in case what i'm looking at in the future

The Decat debate has been done to death on here lol. I'd only decat if you have the money spare to replace the turbos if they fail, to many people go ahead and do it and then have to sell up because they can't afford to put it right. Yes the engine does have to come out and it's costly £1500-£2000.

Remember these cars are old now, how do you think 16+ year old tired tubby seals are gonna feel with all the added back pressure?
