Deicded to get some fuel this afternoon (a drive of around 10 miles). Started up first time straight away no probs. When I'd fuelled up I go to start the car and nothing. All the ignition lights were on but really dull and went out when I turned it to start they all went out but the engine didn't even turn.

After a bit of messing the door solenoids started operating really quickly and the alarm was beeping but the hazards were not flashing. Then after about half an hour I checked the fuses. Then not even the ignition lights or headlights or anything came on. After a while I called Chunk who came to the rescue and we jump started it and it ran.

However, only the fuel gauge operated and the coolant, rev counter, speedo didn't work. The boost gauge was reading +14 on tickover. On the way home it was dark so I had the lights on. When I braked the nearside headlamp flicked of and then straight back on again. Also once I pulled the handbrake on and the fog light came on.

Can anyone shed any light on this at all?

TIA

Ivan

Ya' big wuss, get out there now and check it!!

Well not 'all of a sudden'-corrosion takes time!

Could be ok mate, but needs checking :)

My guess is fuse gone or water damage to fuse box in footwell:

the drain from the targa roof runs down there and sometimes leaks.

I had this prob afew years ago.

When multiple things don't operate when they should and other things operate when you put your foot on the brake, etc, it's a good sign of a bad earth.

:) My old Skyline had a bad earth and some times the car would stop, the wipers would come on the the headlights would dim. It was only 1 poor earth on the headlights in the end. When that failed you got the dim lights as the return path for the power was through the wiring loom, through an electronic box (hence the motor stopping) and through the wiper motor (hence they ran) to earth.
