:( o.k i'm being stupid. got a replacement gearknob, simple case of unscrew old and "screw" new one on.The old one is a bit stubborn and i don't want to force it and "screw" something else up. The question is do i use a bit more force to undo it or is there a much simpler way(apart from :duffer: not replacing it in the first place!)

Some come of very easily by hand, others need a lot of persuasion. If a set of grips dont help then you may have to resort to cutting it off.....just make sure you only cut the gearknob and not through to the shaft.

Mine was a b@st@rd. Cut the leather off, then some plastic and had to use a pipe wrench on the metal part.

i'd go for the hacksaw!!!!! give it a light cut but make sure u dont hit the handle itself!!!!
