:(

this used to happen once in a blue moon, but now it seems to be becoming more frequent.

On turning the key the check lights come on, i can hear the pump do it´s thing briefly but that´s about it..no clicking or turning of the starter...the dash lights don´t get dimmer like a power drain..just nothing what so ever. I read something about aftermarket alarms causing stuff like this..but my alarm isn´t hooked up to the immobilizer--never has been.

any ideas would be greatly appreciated

cheers

Maz

oh..and just remembered...it´s never done that when the car is cold..always after it´s been driven abit and the engine is warm...could be coincidence though.

:)

is it auto or manual ?

next time it does it try putting a separate feed to the starter to see if it engages or if it is at fault ?

there´s an idea...but wouldn´t i hear at least something from the starter ..even a click ...it´s more like trying to start the car without pushing the clutch..exactly like that...nothing happens...the dash lights stay on (full brightness) that´s about it.

left the car standing and got a lift into work...came back two and a half hours later and the car started first go...things that make you go "hmmmmmmmm"

mine did this once, and i _think_ it does down to the imobiliser being shorted out. I plugged the car into my laptop (was clutching at straws thought id check conzult) and then tried it and it started... nothing to do with conzult, because the laptop was still starting windows when i plugged it in... and then it worked. Its only done this once, but it might be a similar thing.

As Anna says, next time short the starter,if it doesn't engage-it's fooked! :wack:

Just to clarify, you need to put +12v on the flying lead from the starter motor - whatever you do don't short the wire attatched to the back to the chassis, sparks will fly

cheers for that...next time it happens I´ll try the starter motor thing, At least that way even if it´s not the starter motor i can make some progress through elimination.

Just hope it doesn´t happen too soon ..or when I´m stuck in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night.

thanks alot
