a friend of a friend looked at her and pointed out a few more ideas.

could there be a crack in the head oil way???????????????.

has an oil ring gone????????????????????????

done a compresson test and had great figures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no oil in the exhaust as my mate took it off and looked  .

or as i think another w*nk re-con tub from MIDLAND TURBOS.

oh and has been the same side both times (drivers side).

the first tub let go in under 100 miles and now this one in 200 miles  .

AND SHE ONLY STARTS TO SMOKE WEN SHE IS WARMED.

thats bad luck matey, seems strange that it has happened on the same side, have you checked pcv's and pipes, do you have cats in your exhaust, if so these may be saturated with old oil, what type of exhaust do you have fitted, also are you sure its oily smoke and not like maybe an overfuelling smoke or condensation from a knacked head gasket

sorry i cant help anymore, good luck whatever it is

maybe it jusrt needs a good blast out, oil may lie in exhaust's where you may not see it

worth a try

take the boost pipe off and check and clean it with brake cleaner allso the butterfly in the throttle bodie, then blast it around for a few days and then see iff its got an oily residue coated back on the inside, this will tell you iff the tub seals are fvked ;)

oh gazza remember the right boost pipe is served from the left turbo and visa versa hth ;)

was thinkin that myself stella, only gave her a short blast on monday and got a boost leak and am only running on saftey boost as dont want to dial in the boost controller yet.

a boost leak woodnt make it worse wood it??????????????????????????????.

so have been poopin about till the leak is sorted,am off to gratham water on sunday so i hope it might sort it out,its about 140-150 mile round trip.

ahhhhhhhhh another good idea.

so if i take the intercooler pipes off and clean it.will do both sides.

and also clean the throttle bodies.it will give me an idea on whats going on.

the passenger side tub is fine, not a hint of smoke.

only reason i asked about passenger side is the oil pressure sensor take-off has seriously small holes which get easily clogged and starve the passenger turbo of oil, causing initial failure. If this isn't rectified when the new turbos are fitted then the brand new units will fail almost instantly, however, if its a drivers side failure then it is almost definitely poor rebuild of the unit. Were the oil supplies to the turbos checked after fittment of the new units?

(ps. obviously, as much as i would like, this information has not come from my goodself, lol!)

Yes, boost leak will cause black smoke from over fuelling, general poor running, possible turbo overheating, you really want to get it fixed.

have you done an ecu error code check, maybe an 02 sensor cusing it to smoke (or would that casue both to smoke

take some credit yr dictating and typing and doin a good job ;) .

will thank andy now for his input .

the passenger side is spot on and not a hint of smoke, trust me ive watched it for hrs lol.

the oil feed pipes were new and blown out both times by an air line.

pcv,s blown out and checked both times too.

wen i first got her back there was only smoke wen u blipped the throttle and then after 10 secs it was clear again.

drove 140 miles with julie behind me and we got stuck in traffic quite a bit no smoke.

any smoke i put down to leftover oil in the exhaust as it didnt smell like fresh burning oil.

am at a loss now as i have all sorts of other bad thoughts of what is wrong.

o2 sensors were checked and a new one was fitted on the passenger side.

no error codes showed up  .

Blue smoke would suggest its burning in the cylinders which would then point to piston/ring damage :( From (LOTS) of experience this wouldn't show on a compression test unfortunately :( Get the thing on boost and see if it blows the dipstick out. Not a guaranteed test but usually works. If you're really struggling then I've got a list of customers down south waiting for a visit... I'm sure if you were really desperate they wouldn't complain ;) lol

hi andy,am only on saftey boost at the mo then i got a boost leak.

i did 2 hard runs in her and the dipstick is fine.

didnt want to do anymore runs as with a leak i thought it might do some damage.

i have that gut feeling that its an oil ring though, surely the same tub cant go twice but it was done by MIDLAND TURBOS so its possible.

im so fooked off and 2k lighter.

andy didnt get the last bit of yr post?????????????????????????.

my debt collecting days are over mate :D

LOL last bit meant I've got a few folk wanting me to look at their cars down your way, not debt collecting :D Although if you can get me some money out of a certain guy called HOM apparently now residing in bristol, then I'd be eternally gratefull :D He only ripped me off to the tune of £20k

Cheers,

Andy

give us a shout tommorow afternoon gaz, sorry to hear about the smoking issue AGAIN! it does look like an engine issue opposed to a turbo one. need to have a couple of good runs, preferably out of safety boost.

greg

Sounds like your having a real ball ache mate, I know what its like I've been there too. As already said a boost leak will cause it to chuck out smoke because its getting in loads of fuel instead of air. Fingers crossed thats all it is.

10yrs ago and i wood have made a few phone calls and got it sorted.

now im just a big softie but dont tell anyone :D .

ah so yr down my way :hyper: ,my zed guy is supposed to be coming during the wk to sort my boost leak out.

it was fine on saftey boost and as soon as i turn the boost up a nats cok it boost leaked straight away.

and it has started to smoke more as well,so maybe that is the prob andy??????.

as on my previous post, the journey home NO SMOKE 140 MILES.

drove her around with no boost just bedding the tub in NO SMOKE.

left her on tickover for ages and NO SMOKE.

but if u just blipped the throttle it wood smoke for a few seconds and then NO SMOKE

took her for a couple of runs and it started to smoke more  .

and now its getting worse but that only seems to be after the boost leak  .

plus have not had chance to give her a proper run on proper boost.

wood all this just be me dreaming andy and hoping its not internal.

i just dont no and have come to my fookin wits end with my zed.

andy let me no wen yr down this neck of the woods,if my zed guy doesnt come down i will get u to look at her,

dont worry i will have a gallon of petrol standing buy if its fooked :D .

cheers glen,im seriosly hoping it is only because of a boost leak.

it didnt smoke before the boost leak and now it does  .

as i said before mate,my zed uses no oil and never has in the 3yrs of me having her.

there is no oil in the water either  .
