When replacing gearstick for a short shifter, do you remove the big plate (4 screws and a bolt) around it to get to the bottom nut?

Or is this done from under the car....?

(Just Ive removed all centre console etc and am now stuck and need to get car back together fairly quick to go out)

Oh - to top it all the one I removed is the same size as the one I am now trying to refit!!!! So I had a bloody shortshifter in all the time!!! : :headvswal

No he hasn't you cheeky sod - he's been cutting your bloody grass!!! :p

Are you absolutly sure you've already got a short shift? It's not the length of the lever that changes but the pivot it rotates around. The actual difference in pivot point position is small (50mm) but as it's a lever the effect is multiplied.

if anyone can measure one I would be grateful, measure either the std or shortshift one and I can confirm.

 

Oh, I posted it on another thread but cheers to Duffman who came out and used his magic bendy rubber hands to locate, hold, thread and turn bolts at the same time....

It's been a while since I did mine but IIRC you cal tell buy looking at the position of the pivot relative to the mounting surface, the closer the pivot is to the gearbox the longer the shift.
