Has anybody ever heard of Anti-Lag being run on a 300zx?

Im going for a new ECU/Chip soon, and im considering going for anti-lag along with it...

Its quite popular over here in Northern Ireland with mr2's/scoobys/evos/etc..

I know traction would be an issue, but it sounds amazing...

your turbos will last about a day. and considering theyre a nightmare to change out on the zed, i wouldnt bother. even if it is a soft lag. if its just the sound you want then turn off the over-run fuel cut, and lean everything off on the over run and retard the timing at about 2-4krpm at min load.

then itl pop bang and fart all you like if you get it right ;)

Wouldnt last a day? Come on thats abit of an eggageration? I hope! lol!

Id just love the turbo power from the second i press the pedal down....

I'd take advice on something like that with a pich of salt as there are not that many tuned cars period, so there isnt that much wealth of experiance as it is. Its hard enough as it is to find someone who can tune these cars as it is, ask Mac.

Best thing to do is as some people who have had it done at the reliability issues mate.

a bit, my mates Escort RS tubby lasted a few weeks and the second a few months lol

not so hard to change on the Fords tho. Def speak to someone whos in the know and i guess it depends how you drive the car and how often too

at the end of the day, the question is, is it worth risking your turbos/engine just for a popping noise ????. i certainly wouldnt.

Its not just the popping noise, its a performance bonus as well...

And anti-lag can be switched on + off.....So this wouldnt wear away at your turbos every second you drive it...

ok, well i ran anti lag on my charade GTti (which i fitted a T25/T2 to from my 300zx) the turbine temps were insane even on low boost with next to no timing retard. the thrust bearings cant take the explosion forces caused by the sudden expansion of gas in the turbine housing (compared to the more gradual burn which usually happens in the cylinders). ive got pics of my melted thrust collar if anyones interested?? might be ok with an uprated turbo with 360deg bearings, but certainly not on a std one.

in the end i just changed the timing and modified the manifold to reduce the lag (which i should have done in the first place)

hope that helps

Thanks for the replys, so basically going for anti-lag id need a turbo upgrade?

Which turbos? Anyone have a link as im not the best when it comes to mechanics ;)

personally id buy turbos with a smaller AR so they have less lag, or buy tubular manifolds etc something that will make the gas flow more efficient. id rather run a shot of NOS to over come lag than to go to all the hassle of anti-lay again. its too much heart ache.

seems an awfully expensive sound-effect to me. what kind of driving do you do that its so neccessary? just try left foot braking to keep them wound up.

Yup I would go with a controlled nos system to remove lag if you perceive it as a problem
