Whats the best way of getting more stopping power.

brake fade not so important as Im not track-daying it.

Looking for more bite. Is it worth upgrading rear brakes at same time.

Will them Brembo with 350mm discs do the job? or is there better?

I thought the brembos were from the Skyline GTR and 6 pots?

they do some awsome kits and a fair amount cheaper than brembos etc

I [smithy's Place] have a few options worthy of your consideration:

(1) Smithy's Place Big Brake Upgrade: 324mm DBA 4000-series slotted discs, Porterfield R4-S pads and calliper relocation brackets. This setup uses the Skyline GTR disc with your stock callipers. Stopping power is greatly increased and you are ready to upgrade to Skyline GTR callipers when they become available. Minimum wheel size: 17". PRICE: £450

(2) K-Sport 8-pot Brake Kit: 356mm rotors, aluminium bells, brackets, K-Sport street pads and braided brake hoses. You can upgrade to Ferodo DS2500 pads for an additional £90. Minimum wheel size: 18". This setup is used on many 500bhp + Skylines R33 and is regarded as one of the best upgrades available on the market today. PRICE: £995

(3) DBA slotted discs + Porterfield R4-S pads: This is the most economical way of increasing your stopping power. The disc are stock TT size and the pads are suitable for fast street and some track use. You retain the stock callipers and no further modifications are required. Minimum wheel size: 16" stock. PRICE: £290

Please note that all the above are for front axle only. Rear big brake conversions are also available (for example: 330mm K-Sport) - please enquire about the options available to you.

the 8 pots seem the way to go danny ? have you ever tried these yourself ?

thanks

Jaffa is in the process of fitting these to his zed.

They look like they should do the job! Good price too...

James,

I have no personal experience with these fitted to a 300ZX. However, I have been in a S14 (albeit as passenger) with this kit up front and when the driver hit the stop pedal it nearly made my eyes pop out of their sockets. Had seatbelt marks across my shoulder to proof it too! So yes, excellent bit of kit.

Ok might be worth more of an investigate i need some new discs anyway so this might be the way to go. If i was flogging my orig calipers what sort of money do they fetch ?

If you decide to go for R33 Brembo calipers, I would suggest you strip them down and clean them up fitting new rubbers etc first. I converted to GTR Brembo's on the front and found that they were only slightly better than the stock 300zx's. I decided to strip them off again and give them a good clean up, work pistons in a little more and reseal them. 10 times better than before.

fronts are fitted ;) not put many miles on them yet so still bedding in. Very happy with the quality of the setup and initial impressions aer promising. will post some pics up soon when i have time.

eeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrr i think he wants some pics

Those 8 pots K-sports look incredibly good value. You pay that price overall when you upgrade to skyline brembos anyway.

some pics, put them on here as I can't be bothered to start a new thread!

I've also had the front arches rolled. 265 fronts on a 9" rim, +33 offset worked fine, but the extra space needed to clear the calipers means I'm effectively running +20 offset. This is only an issue due to the split rim design, a more open style wheel would easily cover them.

PS please ignore chipped bumper paint and broken side skirt, aesthetics aren't a priority at the mo' :)

They look the nuts mate. I think 265 on the front is a tad too wide though! say goodbye to steering!

you'd be surprised, with the geometry setup correctly it's great, front end is very responsive, and no understeer! and doesn't even follow bad cambers on the road or tramline.

They're 18s mate.

James, those discs look absolutely huge under your rims.

Let us know how you get on once they are worn in...

Um correct me if I'm wrong but your discs seem to be fitted on the wrong side of the car. Shouldn't the groove sweep out towards the windscreen and not the front bumper?? Been fitting bigger brakes for 10 years and always done it that way according to my engineer.? cheers Chris

fitted as per the instructions provided.

for those that are intereseted, the kit is bed in and I'm truly impressed with the stopping power and solid feel of the pedal :)

You are quite right - apparantly the curved veins in the centre of the disc mean they should be fitted contrarywise to the usual way.

Maybe I should have checked that out b4 posting Ah Hem!! cheers

ps learn a little something everyday I say ;)

Jaffa,

How have these settled in 6 months on?

Im looking into these, but struggling to find any comprehensive feedback on how they handle road and track work.

Cheers mate

Nick

Got my 330 mm discs fitted with Jaguar sized DS2500 pads - stock calipers - awesome difference. Made the choice between doing Silverstone or staying at home!!

Let me know if you want pics of the disc / bells on the car.

unfortunately with a new arrival in the household I think I've done less than 10 miles in the last 6 months! I've now SORN'd it until the new engine is fitted
