thanks mate

yeah greg, cant believe it but i forgot to keep an eye on the oil again :hurl:

how much of a prat do i feel like :wack:

well shes runnin again and i might try and put a 1000 miles before hittin the loud pedal.

last bottom end rebuild i got carried away after 150 mile and raced an audi s3, well i mean i kicked an s3,s arse. and after 2000 miles and a low oil level they let go again.

this time the noise was hardly audible, but i knew wat it was straight away, so pulled her of the road again. and a fresh set back in.

wat sort of milage should i put on the new shells before a can drive hard again

only took me 5 hours from start to finish this time lol

well done bud

just becareful if your loosing oil its either a big leak or worn engine

like you said just keep an eye on it ;)

no leaks greg, just a worn engine, but for a worn engine its a quick fecker. i reckon she still pushes around 350ish with the few mods ive fitted. scorpion ex, induction, chip and decat. oh and the boost runnin max lol.

well i,m gonna have to nurse her for a while.

wat mileage you rcomend for run in?

no real run in on bottom end just take it easy for the first few miles, if it happens again it will mean your crank has had it bud, they can take some abuse but it would suggest another failure would mean new or re ground crank

a small amount of moly lube is important for the bearings it aids early wear by protecting it for the first couple of rotations

running in is one of those theory's that has some people swear by and others drive as you would and not had any issues!, I think its always good to bed engines in to some extent, cant hurt can it, just make sure you use the revs otherwise that in itself can do harm to a new engine by driving like miss daisy :smash:

as you have done the bottom end, theres no harm in rebuilding your own engine, it shows you have confidence in your ability, maybe next task is a rebuild :duffer:

all the best

thanks greg, a rebuild shouldnt be much of a problem as i,m a time served diesel fitter. may be the way to go if she lets go again. i could do with upgrading the turbos and injectors for big power gains

If you wanna bed it in nice dont labour the engine in any gear and keep her working hard with plenty of gear changes.but stay out the red on the rev counter or :wack: .also i always use monograde engine oil with no additives to help things settle in nicely.
